Doncaster Railway Station

Story

Doncaster railway station serves the town of Doncaster, in South Yorkshire, England. It is situated on the East Coast Main Line 156mi north of London King's Cross and managed by Virgin Trains East Coast. It is a major passenger interchange between the East Coast Main Line and Cross Country Route and local services running across the North of England. It is also the point for which Virgin Trains East Coast services from London divide, either branching off to Leeds or continuing north to Scotland via Newcastle and the North East.HistoryThe railway station was built in 1849 replacing a temporary structure constructed a year earlier. It was rebuilt in its present form in 1938 and has had several slight modifications since that date, most notably in 2006, when the new interchange and connection to Frenchgate Centre opened. In May 2015, construction commenced on a new Platform 0 to the north-east of the station adjacent to the Frenchgate Centre on the site of the former cattle dock. It will be used by terminating Northern services to Hull, Beverley, Bridlington and Scarborough. This will allow these services to operate independently of the East Coast Main Line. It is joined to the rest of the station via a fully accessible overbridge.

Creation of paved entrance square, in former car park, has provided a more pleasant arrival experience, and a relaxed place to sit, before travel. Also the new and wider pedestrian crossing, unlike the old one, aligned with the station frontage, allows quicker and easier access to the nearby town centre.
Don't let the tiny car park fool you. Doncaster train station is big and busy and also beautiful in its own way. Look out for the new platform 0.
I couldnt thank the staff enough they were amazing very supportive and kind thank you !
the birthplace of the infamous Flying Scotsman.
Amazing for train spotting and amazing for relaxing in platform 0 waiting shelter! I would recommend a bin in platform 0 waiting shelter though and also, it would be good to have a toilet as it's such a long walk! But overall, it's a nice place for trainspotting!
Quieter than normal, but still running normally.
Easy to find platforms and very helpful and friendly staff.
I like this place makes a change from London. People are nicer
Why do you cancel trains and when connections are necessary leave promptly with an empty train 30 seconds after the delayed train has arrived- I feel you do this deliberately with no thought for your customers.
