Having had weimaraners all my adult life when I was contacted to take on a rescue I was excited. What I brought home wasn't anything I had encountered before. Rupert was 6 and had never been socialised and had very limited contact with the outside world. He had never had any training so in essence we were working with a feral dog who behaved outrageously. I thought with love and consistency we could settle him. My local vet advised me to put him to sleep that he was a lost cause. Thankfully I never took that advice and subsequently changed vets. I looked around the local area and found Peter. We worked a lot with Peter and I continued on that work on a day to day basis. Rupert is now a well mannered dog who responds well to praise and love. He truly is a completely different animal to the one I collected last year. Rupert now walks with other dogs and wags his tail lots. He will always be a stress head about certain things but I know how to recognise them now and can distract appropriately. Peter in essence saved my dog. I felt sure I had the foundations to get him to a good place but with Peter's guidance, encouragement and the confidence he gave me Rupert is now a remarkably loving well adjusted dog. Rupert lives with Peter when we are on holiday. I don't worry about him in the slightest. He is in the safest of hands. Hellen Nathan, Formby.
We were in big trouble with our beloved rescue dog who was highly leash reactive to people, cats, dogs with bite redirection tendencies. Peter was more than happy to take her case on stating "I am looking forward to meeting this girl, I think working with her will be very interesting!" and it was simply the best answer we could have hoped for. Our dog and Peter got along beautifully straight away and she made amazing progress in such a short time - calmly walking on the lead past all distractions, zero reactivity and a delight overall. Peter helped our dog become so calm, so care-free and gave her back her happiness and beautiful, sweet nature. Not only has he helped us with fully training our dog, but he also extended her board & train booking at extra short notice at our request twice! and we will ALWAYS be extremely grateful for this. Peter has been very friendly, professional and easy going throughout our experience with him and the updates we received, the phone conversations were simply delightful knowing our dog is in the best of hands! Words cannot describe our gratitude, I don't think there are enough words powerful enough to thank him for his help. We adore this dog and wanted every single chance she had to be offered to her flawlessly and I have no idea how we bumped into Peter and his amazing service, but one thing we know for sure is that we would have NEVER been able to achieve what he has achieved and with such passion. To know your dog is well cared for, happy and her days are fulfilled with love, training and exercise is beyond amazing. Do use Peter's services and do listen to his advice as it's priceless!
Peter trained our German Shepherd Dog a couple of weeks ago with incredible results. We were completely unable to control her and at our wits end. Not only did he work with her, he taught us how to manage her and handle her more effectively. Since we worked with Peter our walks have gone from stressful and completely unenjoyable to the highlight of our day. He is an incredible trainer of both people and dogs. He communicated with us throughout the entire process and answered any and all questions we could think of. Our entire family is so thankful for him and we couldn’t recommend him more strongly!
Peter was our last hope to help us with our whippet who has a high prey drive. We could not walk him safely as he reacted to anything that moved and was a danger to himself and others. Peter took Riley for a residential stay, supposedly for 2 weeks but it only took 1 week for him to transform Riley into a calm, happy dog who is a joy to walk. Thank you so much Peter, your input has enabled us to keep our gorgeous boy without worrying every time we take him out of the door.
Our dog has stayed with Peter many times and always comes back to us happy and well exercised. It's not easy leaving your dog with someone else, but knowing he takes such good care and treats her like part of the family is very reassuring . I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Peter to anyone looking for boarding or training for their dog.
I have had a 9 year old rescue for 6 months. He has had a tough life and no socialisation so was very reactive to other dogs and people. Despite being loving and obedient in the home, life had become very stressful when going for a walk or visitors came to the house. I had witnessed an attack on another dog and a person and truthfully we were at the end of the road until I met Peter I had 2 sessions with Peter and what a transformation . My dog is no longer anxious and very relaxed around other dogs. Peter not only trained our lovely boy to be a relaxed dog he also gave me great advice and tips to be the leader my dog so needed me to be. I was honestly amazed and would recommend Peter as a brilliant trainer and behaviourist that has helped me and my enjoy life together without the drama we had to endure Thank you Peter
I was rescuing a dog from another country and Peter is the only trainer I spoke to who would take her on, as I realistically had no idea if she had behavior issues or not. He spent so much time on the phone to me, initially, giving me comfort and courage and just putting me right at ease. Then, when the dog came, Peter helped to collect her, deal with the transportation company and keep me posted throughout the entire training, being honest about any issues he spotted and how he was working on them. Finally, Peter traveled for hours to deliver my dog back to me, and spent so much time with me, teaching me how to carry on working with her and even treated me to a lovely breakfast with the dog, so we could test how she is on a social setting - well she was perfect! She went from being a "street dog" to a well mannered, pleasant, house trained pet and he has made it clear he is available any time extra help is required. I cannot recommend him enough. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have my lovely dog here with me. Thanks so much Peter for everything and being so lovely :
Definitely would not recommend Peter hargreaves as a dog trainer. Peter came to my house to help me with my reactive border collie. He initially sprayed him with toilet freshener when my dog approached him in my house because he found it rude of him. He then explained we will be using an e collar to correct my dogs bad habits. After fitting the collar he took a dog out of the van, waited for my dog to lunge and react then shocked him at a level of 10, the collar has 20 levels. My dog yelped and we did this multiple times. He told me it was all normal and to trust the training methods. We had another lesson and I stupidly continued to abuse my dog thinking I was helping him out of his bad habits. Peter assured me we were doing the right thing but I knew something was wrong. Toby stopped the bad behaviour and after the lessons I was happy with the service, I thought these harsh corrections had solved everything and I could finally do what I wanted with my dog. I was wrong. Peter recommended I got an e collar to use for a while after the lessons. I got the exact one he used on my dog Toby regressed back to his old ways very quickly but his reactivity was different from before, he seemed scared of everything and damaged. I called Peter for more help and explained everything. Peter invited me to one of his group classes free of charge which I attended. I will never forget what I saw that day, one young dog completely shut down out of fear when the owner got the e collar out and had to be carried away. One spaniel was constantly helping in pain at the collar while Peter praised the owners handling skills. My dog was the worst there by far, but he was nowhere near this bad before the lessons. Peter said the reason some of the dogs were aggressive to my dog was because of the way he stares at them with him being a border collie. So he gave me a blindfold for my dog and told me to walk through the pack of dogs despite the fact Toby had no clue what was going on, I walked through the dogs who continued to bark at Toby and terrified him. I Did my own research and realised the methods I was taught were the worst possible ways to train a dog with toby's problem. I watched all the videos of a dog trainer Peter recommended called Larry Krohn. Larry described trainers who used Peter's methods as disgusting and cruelty. The way Peter uses an e collar can work. But it isn't fair and there is a huge chance you can mess your dog up if your dog is particularly nervous like mine. I was stupid to think for a second what I was being shown was the appropriate way to train a dog. I have since used a trainer called Danny Wells who managed to stop my dog reacting with just a slip collar in about 10 minutes. So why Peter with all your years of experience do you think it's necessary to shock my dog like that? I trusted you with a member of my family and you let down yourself, me and most importantly my dog. When I initially voiced my concerns to Peter over text, he wished me good luck and gave no defence to the way he treats dogs. I send him another text a few days later asking for a refund and his reason was I didn't follow the advice because I put the short prongs on a collar instead of the long ones which my dog needed because of his long coat. Peter didn't advise me of this he also used the short prongs on my dog! Not to mention, he told me it wouldn't be completely necessary for me to get an e collar if I didn't want to pay out for one. Another thing to note is that Peter pretty much showed me nothing about how to handle my dog properly, he thought it was appropriate to jump straight to tools and skip that bit, he could also not read my dog very well, I questioned him about certain signals my dog was giving and he was as clueless as me. If you are reading this, please don't make the stupid mistake I made and trust any random 'trainer' Do your own research of dog training tools before slapping an e collar or prong on your dog. Good dog trainers really are few and far between. I found out the hard way and my 8 month old dog payed the price
What can I say! Peter is absolutely amazing, his techniques, his advice and knowledge of dogs is unbelievable. He truley is one in a million. We have a 5 month Golden Retriever who WAS see that.. past tense... Not anymore! Extremely scared around other dogs and people. It was becoming a real problem, especially when going to dog groomers, vets and general walks...I was that owner who was quickly turning into the late night walker to avoid others!... From a call on Friday evening to Peter, Peter arrived on the Sunday! Very impressed! The time and effort Peter put in was just outstanding. Not only was Peter training our Puppy, he also trained me! Our Puppy had knocked my confidence from previous experiences, I was just waiting for something to happen everytime I stepped out the door. The confidence he has put back into me as the dog owner, I cannot thank him enough for. Honestly.... If you find yourself in a similar situation or want a better understanding and relationship with your dog, you don't need to look any further. Peter is the man! Listen to Peter's advice, do your homework and you WILL have a changed dog! Worth every single penny.
Highly recommend Dog harmony for anyone needing help with dog aggression. We sought training for our lead reactive terrier who would become out of control when seeing another dog -barking, lunging, snapping and on occasion biting us, and as a result walks had become a pretty miserable experience. Within the first session with Peter I was not only walking my dog amoung other dogs with no reaction but walking multiple dogs along with my own in a calm manner all due to Peter correcting my own behaviour/mannerism/dog handling. Thanks to Peter we now have the confidence and techniques to go on walks in daylight/populated areas without fear of unpleasant incidents.
