Great place, good experience! Perfect for kids and train enthusiasts : They have toilets, canteen and gift shop. There is an activity train where kids can go to do some crafts. There’s an underground shelter that can be explored. There’s a couple of museums to visit. Tons of things to do and places to explore. It’s mostly outdoors so check the weather before going. Entry Tickets are affordable.
Amazingly good museum that preserves Britain's GW railway really well and can entertain young children for not just 2 hours but more like 4 to 5 hours. Good facilities on site. This is a great 0lace to come especially on steam days when both trains run a short stretch of line.
Lovely railway centre for a lovely day out. Lots to see, nice and varied, really fun rides on steaming days and plenty of static and smaller exhibits as well. Excellent day out for people of all ages and great collection of engines and stock as well! Highly recommend!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
I took my family this weekend to the Steam Into Christmas event which was brilliant. Not only did the staff do a great job of looking after us around the site, but the value for money was excellent. You got a small present from each of Santa's eight reindeer, one of each would be about what you'd get from most Santa visits. You then got a larger present from Santa himself which the kids got to choose from a decent selection. None of the gifts were of amazing quality, but better than you normally get from this kind of thing. After all of the Christmas fun, you then got to ride on the trains for as long as you wanted and could explore the site to your heart's content. My train-loving son was in his element and said straight away that we need to get back there next year.
I am a regular visitor but haven't visited since before lockdowns. The time seems to have been used wisely with impressive maintenance of the wider area e.g. the picnic area. Discovery Day allowed good access to stationary locomotives and the sunlight ensured lots of good photos. A primary school visit was in full swing, lots for them to do and see and they seemed to be enjoying it. Car park up the road is useful with its gangway to the centre. All in all a great day out.
Stopped in for a visit as we were passing and fancied a walk and a bit of nostalgia. Great facility with lots to see and do. Plenty of hidden bits and pieces. Do yourselves a favour and visit the little antiquities and memorabilia bit near the gents loo. They are selling items to pay for the restoration of one of the big goods engines. But I think its a little too tucked away to do big trade. Great little trip.
Such a nice experience. Make sure you go on the steam engine days. They run steam engines all over the grounds with free rides all day. The location is full of history and has very interactive areas for the kids. The cafe leaves a little to be desired. Park at the normal train station parking garage.Visited onPublic holidayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Great day at Didcot for the steam up on Sunday, this was our first time visiting and won't be our last! Plenty going on all day so many engines were working with steam it felt I had been transported back to 1950's! Great to get up and close to the engines in the sheds and actually get on a footplate for the first time! Nice to see a TPO too as a postman myself this was interesting! Restaurant was busy but that's because the food was excellent and well worth the money. Thanks everyone connected at DRC for a great day!
We had a really great time at Didcot Railway Centre. We visited on the bank holiday Monday to see Paddington Bear. We visited the museum, went on the train rides, visited the gift shop and restaurant. All the staff were really friendly and extremely helpful. Would highly recommend.Visited onPublic holidayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Fantastic place for railway fans - kids and grown ups. I highly recommend visiting on the days when steam and/or diesel engines are operating. The main attraction are yards with renovated trains and work in progress. Museum itself is quite small, but really interesting. Coffee shop prices are reasonable for this type of venue, but there are also picnic areas and you are welcome to bring your own food. Unfortunately, this place is not friendly for people with physical disabilities - to get there you have to climb flight of stairs from Didcot Parkway Station. I'm not aware of any alternative entrance. Also train carriages would be inaccessible for wheelchair users. However other disabilities are catered for - you can get free entrance for carers with paying disabled child or adult. If you have to pay a full price look for deals on Buy a Gift website - there are currently offers for two and for families.
