"A Forest of Dean attraction suitable for visitors of all ages. There are indoor and outdoor exhibits and five galleries which tell the unique history and heritage of the Forest of Dean. We have a waterwheel, beam engine, playground, woodland trail and chainsaw carving exhibits. Family friendly activities run during school holidays and there are events throughout the year. We have a coffee shop and gift shop on site and free parking, we are ideally located for accessing local woodland walks. Groups are welcome.Unfortunately, due to the nature of some of our historical exhibits, we cannot allow dogs into the museum or grounds but they are welcome in the coffee shop- either inside or out on the balcony and in the gift shop."

A good place to go as a family on holiday. It's a very informative place and also has things for young children to do, like dressing up and tracing. The Gruffalo Trail was good with nice carvings, and didn't take long to do. The park there suits a range of children I would say from an active 3 years old up to a teenager, which is great. They do have picnic benches there and a place where the children can do crafts. I would expect more for my money and I was disappointed with the water wheel as it all needs cleaning up outside with very dirty water and this could be a very cool feature. The service can be fast or very slow depending on who is on the till.
I thought this was great value for money. £14 for me, my 2 and 6 year old boys. It helped that my oldest loves archeology, as they really enjoyed the museum. It’s small but is packed and with quite a few interactive features. They both enjoyed exploring the house and gardens and making crafts in the hut and the Gruffalo trail is gorgeous- I think I enjoyed that tho more then they did and there’s a little park in the woods too. The cafe was also good and the food delicious. Lots of the reviews on this feel a little picky to me, I’m 4 days into a holiday here and we’ve done something everyday with the boys and this was my fav as there was something for us all
Friendly staff, interesting displays, cafe. Passed here many times over the last 10 years and it never seemed interesting - there is nothing on the signs to say what is there. Why not call it a museum? Also I suggest the plan should be labelled with words not symbols, and identity what is on each floor. This all sounds bad but just suggestions, we enjoyed it and were surprised.
Such a lovely little place. Gruffalo trail is very small but really great. Play area and lots of historic items to look at. Cafe is great, good choice.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Easy parking. Interesting museum sections inside Some displays a little tired or not working. Outside area pretty seating . Outside displays need a little TLC. Cafeteria stops lunches at 2pm , cakes and drinks only after that, that's fine but we didn't need to be told at 1:50 ..oh, you only just made it, given drinks and ordered food, only one other set of customers arrived...waited. They got their food .went to ask, arrived after asking ,but 20 mins after ordering. When it came it was tasty though. We spent about three hours here and it was a good way to spend a hot day, relaxing.
A nicely located venue, easy to access with on site free parking and a cafe above the reception desk. There is only a relatively small amount to do here for the entrance price, and the Gruffalo trail was very short. There is a small children’s play park also on site, within the ‘pay to access’ area, and a short museum just behind the reception.
Loved it. The Dean Heritage Centre is a great place to spend an afternoon, learn about the Forest and it's inhabitants with your children, and have some ice cream or lunch. As a family we obviously came to look for the Gruffalo, stopped for a picnic, and a walk through the Forest.
I absolutely loved it here! The setting is absolutely gorgeous! The cafe is the best I've been to so far in a heritage centre in terms of food and service. The staff are so friendly and helpful and we had such a laugh there! After coffee and cake we visited the museum which was full of interesting things and stuff to do for the kids! We then walked around the lake which was a lovely walk. Flat and the path is very well taken care of. I would definitely recommend and will be going back often myself!
Lovely place to visit. Lots to see and enjoy inside and outside. And you can finish off your visit with something scrummy from the associated tea room! If you have time try and pop across the road to Soudley Ponds an SSSI and very nice to walk around.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
If you have any nippers the Gruffalo Trail is ideal. As is the rest of the museum, with some great insights life of yesteryear around the Forest if DeanVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
