Over the past 20 years, Dartford has gradually become busier, largely due to the increasing number of commuters moving out of London. Its location makes it a convenient hub — less than 40 minutes by train from London Bridge, Cannon Street, and other major stations, with good interchange options. You can also change at Abbey Wood for the Elizabeth Line, which is a great connector.nnDartford is definitely becoming a key hub for young professionals, and there’s noticeable redevelopment happening in the area. The station itself is well-designed and spacious, with four platforms serving both Southeastern and Thameslink trains. The Southeastern trains are quite modern, including the 707s, while the Thameslink services feature the 700s — both comfortable and efficient.nnAccessibility is well thought out, with lifts available for wheelchair users and parents with buggies, along with stairs for easy access. The station staff are knowledgeable and helpful, always ready to give advice when needed.nnThat said, some aspects of the station feel slightly outdated and would definitely benefit from an update in the near future.nnOverall, Dartford is a solid station — convenient, well-connected, and on the rise.
This is my station, it's not the busiest however it appears busy during rush hours arrivals and departures, the constant presence of the rail police together with regular police makes it a very sore sight to see with needless harassment of the public in particular youngsters and school kids too.nnI have come to become familiar with a few staff who see me often and we exchange pleasantries.nnBe warned, train delays on the south eastern are rife at this station and the platform does get chaotic especially when platforms changes are announced in the last few minutes or seconds before a train arrives and you have to climb a staircase and same down on the other side.nTrain cancellations do offer you bus replacement services just behind the station however it's not the most straightforward to understand if you are doing it first time.nnThankfully staffs are helpful and kind most of the time save the usual case of one or two.nnThere is an in-station corner store, the only one so you understand if their prices are not exactly friendly for basic items. They sell the lottery tickets too.nnOnce you get out of the station, you walk down the stairs by the foot bridge also for bicycles and there are bus stop on both the London Red buses or the local Arriva ones or others... continue walking on the other side of the foot bridge is the Orchard shopping centre and you have Aldi store facing you with a big car park walking on and you are right on the shopping street.nnThe station has toilet facilities as you come down the stairs to arrive at the tickets barrier but before exiting.nnAnother note of warning, while the lifts work, they are about the slowest thing you have ever got on, it's an endless wait for it to arrive when called.nnStation has a car park and a bike rack and as you exit the station right to your left and adjacent is the council offices.nnUPDATE.nI left this bit out previously but yes the bookshelf at the station barrier just by the tickets, which you can pick any book or leave some.nI can probably say I influenced this decision, I asked to speak to the station manager and began a conversation, which led to this however I am not acknowledged in any way and when I spoke to the manager again asking why he never responded to any of my email nor give any acknowledgement, well he went ahead and spoke to others too and they all decided to make it happen.
New looking station. It has toilets next to the ticket office at the front of the building.nnI believe this is an unconditional requirement for a train station.nnI don't understand when a station doesn't have these facilities. dosent open them or closeness them before the station shuts.nnTravellers waiting for a train or making ongoing connections need to be able to access amenities.nnIn summary, a clean, well-appointed main station.
Small but lovely station, the station staff are very friendly and helpful
Excellently places for the shops in dartford, as soon as you step off the train all the shops are there. Hardly any walking required, brilliant for a day's shopping.10/10
