Truly revolting coffee. The place has a fancy barista machine but this wasn't even used to make the drinks?! Flat White came out in a giant cup and was literally scalding hot black coffee with a splash of milk. It was bitter, ridiculously strong, and totally undrinkable. Took it back to the counter and got a condescending explanation of what a Flat White is. I asked for a cappuccino instead, and what came out was the same scalding hot, bitter coffee with half a centimeter of airy milk foam on top. The barista machine absolutely wasn't used, as we were watching! Paid the bill and left without drinking the coffee. It was inedible and revolting. We were also told there was a 30 minute wait for food, despite every other table in the place already being midway through their meals...
Great breakfast!! We wanted to have something to eat and not a lot of options open on Sunday at 9 am! Luckily we found this place!! We ordered pancakes with maple syrup and extra crispy bacon and orange juice. It was delicious!! Highly recommended! We also ordered pancakes with Nutella see the picture they are very generous about the Nutella ; with a latte and toast with scrambled eggs! Everything was really good and the service was fast!
Ordered cappuccino and cake, coffee was one third watery coffee and 2 thirds very airy foam, I tried to get a bit more hot milk but was told "that's how a cappuccino should be" in quite a condescending manner!! As far as I'm aware a cappuccino should be 1/3 espresso coffee, 1/3 steamed milk and 1/3 dense foam, and ideally whole milk. It's a real shame as the breakfast order on the table next to me looked really nice!
I've always enjoyed going to Darnley's to meet up with friends and family. I particularly enjoy the freshly brewed coffee, which is served by the warm and friendly staff. If only the coffee was available to buy so I could make some at home. The ultimate burger genuinely is the ultimate - they couldn't fit anymore on! It's even better now since they refurbished it as it now has a lovely warm and cosy atmosphere, which makes me want to stay for another coffee. Keep up the good work Darnley's!
Absolutely appalling. This was the first time we had been here. We ordered two coffee frappe’s, which were 70% froth. The pastry we ordered took a long time to arrive. When it did, my 3-year-old son and I started to share it. Immediately I knew it tasted stale. I made the staff aware and asked if the pastries were fresh today. I didn’t get a direct answer but was told there were more, and they would heat it for us. When taking my son to the bathroom next to the service area, I saw a large plastic container from Kirkland's filled with the same pastry. The best before date on the box was five days prior! They went off on 23/05, and we were there on 29/05. Revolting. When trying to serve us another pastry, I, of course, refused it. I asked to speak with the Manager/Owner, and I was told they were ‘too busy’. I believe that person is the chef. When paying, I saw him just on his phone. A shame to see a business owner not willing to take care of his customers and adequately address issues when things go wrong. Safe to say we won’t be back. Who knows where else ‘best before’ dates are ignored or what other standards are low. We heard the microwave ping far too many times for comfort. A painful experience.
Today visiting haslemere, went to darnleys for lunch with my partner and granddaughter,,ordered an English breakfast, the tomatoes were burnt, the mushrooms had a very strange taste, sausage was cold in the middle, but cooked? Strange.... that's my order.my partner ordered a cheese and onion sandwich, the cheese was pre sliced and the onion was cold and sticky,my granddaughter who loves all food had a cheese sandwich, pre sliced cheese, hard as rock,and cheesy chips, all in all it was the worst snack we ever tasted, then they charged me £30,50p I said to the girl I wasn't happy, she ignored me.only her serving and I assume her dad or boss in the kitchen. Love haslemere, but will never eat there again,,all 3 off us felt generally unwell after.dont suppose an apology will be forthcoming or a refund.!!!!!!!
Husband had the breakfast toastie which he really enjoyed. I had the tuna melt. Cannot recommend this at all. It looked like vomit, it was tepid and I’ve felt sick all day after eating it. My coffee was cold and the service was slow. I hate leaving bad reviews but it’s now the evening and I’m still feeling lousy. Wanted to love it but just feel ill.
The cafe wasn’t busy and had to wait over 30 minutes for our breakfast! Our table had dirty plates on it and took them 10 minutes for them to clean it. They told us they are understaffed, then you shouldn’t operate or at least warn us so we have the option to leave if it didn’t suit us? My coffee came out in a dirty cup. On top of that the bill came to over £60 for breakfast!
We came here after a pleasant walk in the forest and we needed to replenish our energies. We had a classic english breakfast with a coffee. The coffe was good and the service fine. We really liked the breakfast which seemed to be made with local food.
Over 35 mins wait for two takeaway sandwiches at £16.40. It wasn’t particularly busy, there was 6 empty tables inside and out and we wasn’t warned of the length of wait in advance. Then one of the sandwiches were missing the salad.
