Really lovely park! £3 parking which is a bit steep. Wee shops and cafes are lovely as well but again expensive. We walked the full route which is roughly 6 miles. Just fyi there is no seating/picnic benches outwith the initial part of the park once you are out on the walk routes there is no where to sit until back at the main part of the park! Lovely place : suggest keeping dogs on lead if out on the exterior walls as often horses going by.
Lots to do, like Go Ape and Fort Douglas play park, but you'll pay handsomely for everything. Even parking is £3. There are some good long walks which you can do for free. Nice views of the river and of the country house, and pretty close to the middle of Dalkeith. There's a cafe and restaurant, both pretty pricey, and there are craft and memento shops as well.
Just fantastic. They've got separate areas for toddlers and bigger kids. My little one had the best time exploring all the wooden forts, slides, and especially loved the big bouncy thing : definitely going back
Beautiful surroundings with great disability access. Locally sourced freshly made food was delicious and Abbie, Katie & Louise made it a very special visit. We’ll be back thanks to them and their outstanding service and friendly manner. Thank you.
Took the kids to the this last night, though in all honesty it was so good I would have gone without them! The kids loved the pirates and their treasure map to find clues! The music and various lights were just beautiful, finished off with toasted marshmallows they were able to toast themselves! As for me it was the first time I have truly felt christmassy this year!
Omg shocking !!!!! We are new to Dalkeith country park fort William. Arrived at roughly 11.40 paid £3 for parking which was fine went to the pay and spent £20 for two kids and two adults, fine we bought some food so we will spend the day. Well that bubble got well and truly burst at 12.50 when they started ringing a bell and saying it was closing for lunch . I’m sorry but what was wrong with the member of staff who booked us in at 11.55 saying do you know that the park closes in 1 hour for lunch??? Instead we had to deal with a very upset 4 and 7 year old who were having a great time ! Won’t be back and definitely wasn’t worth the money! In my opinion was day light robbery!!!
We just went for a three hour walk around the grounds. Horses and cows to admire. The walks around the river seem mostly protected oak conservation land, not accessible at the moment. There is a toilet, shops, restaurant.
Lovely landscape, my favourite walk is currently closed off as they aim to reforest the oaks, but regardless we found a lovely new route. Beautiful area and hearty food available.
Loved our trip to Dalkeith country park. The park itself is great. However, we feel they need to sort their payment on arrival policy out for Fort Douglas. We arrived and went to pay at the kiosk for our party of 7, but were told we had to book and pay through their online system. We just wanted to tap our debit card, get our tickets and enter. Wasn't possible though, as we had to faff around going through their online booking system instead. Must be stressful if you are maybe older and not confident scanning QR codes and booking things online. Make it easier for your customers Dalkeith CP.
Great park for forest walks or cycling. Restoration Yard is very nice, however the prices in the shops can be expensive. Free if you come on foot, £3 at time of writing if you bring a car.
