Probably the worst removals experience in 25 years of moves. We had been let down by another company at relatively short notice so this company had been suggested. They arrived on time at 1pm. But suspicions about the ‘quality of service’ we were about to receive started ringing alarm bells when we saw the state of the van and then being told the tail lift had ‘rusted off years ago’ by one of the ‘lads’. The van was not in great condition and larger than a typical 7.5 tonner so it struggled to get in and out of our properties which are situated off single track lanes; had the company told us the van was 8ft longer than a std size we could have advised them to bring something smaller thus avoiding what was to follow. The owner marched into the house, no use of the front door mat! And no tail lift so our furniture was hoiked up unceremoniously onto the rear of the van and the occasional crashing and banging was a concern. The inside van floor was not particularly clean. Getting to our new property the van was too large to turn in so completely destroyed the verges of the bell mouth entrance. The driver rode over large rocks at the entrance dragging one under the vehicle and wedging it tight so that the van was stuck. I had to fetch tools, climb under and dislodge the stone as none of the removal crew were volunteering! At the property the move-in went quickly but no consideration was given to protecting carpets from the dirty shoes of removals staff. Had we not had covers I dread to think what would have happened to our nice new flooring and carpets. The removals personnel smoked at every opportunity and casually discarded their butts wherever they could flick them rather than collect them! At the end of the offload the owner swept out the van and brushed everything he found in the van onto our driveway; litter, staples, pins, assorted plastic, bits of wood; right were we park our car - how inconsiderate and disrespectful to throw all his rubbish onto our property! Upon inspection there were damages; a broken cooker knob; a broken click-shut panel on a tumble dryer; in attempting to dismantle a triple wardrobe which was the last item off the van before they could leave they wrenched a panel apart and in affect destroyed the unit which is now in a skip. Worse was to come. In attempting to drive out, rather than pull around a courtyard and reverse into a position ready to drive out forwards the driver decided to try and cut a corner and ended up slipping and sliding due to all the mud he had collected from our entrance verges. He spent half an hour f’ing and blinding about things until we helped him get traction with some sand. Frankly the impression this crew left us with was one of great disappointment. The general feeling was they had somewhere else to be and let’s get this done and out of here, despite learning we were their only job that day. They really hadn’t a clue about providing the care a house-holder requires when uplifting or delivering to their new home. No tip was given nor earned. A stressful and very frustrating experience leaving us wondering why we had listened to the company that ‘suggested’ them in the first place. Would not use again. We’ll stick with one of the National’s in future, a lot dearer but at least you get a much better quality of service.
