When I was seven months pregnant my former partner drove his Mercedes head on into the stone wall in the Pooley Bridge car park after threatening to kill himself and after he damaged my phone because I broke up with him. I was injured from the airbag and I was taken to hospital in an ambulance for the baby to be monitored. The whole front end of the car was damaged and there were four witnesses, but Cumbria Constabulary let him go. When I requested the police report the Constabulary provided me with three witness statements from people who saw and heard the whole thing. However when I made a formal complaint in March 2017 Cumbria Constabulary did not respond for almost a year. When I finally received a response in February 2018 they said his "mistake" caused "a very minor accident with minimal damage" and "the suspects account cannot be disproved as there are no witnesses to the incident." I have photos of the car's bonnet smashed up and showing that the two airbags deployed, and I have the witness statements. Instead of investigating further the Complaints Manager provided false information. I must say that two of the officers I have dealt with (one who first responded to this incident and one who I have dealt with more recently) were wise and caring, and I cannot emphasise enough how much those officers have been kind to me and have helped me, but I am so unhappy with the way Cumbria Constabulary handled this complaint. It took the Complaints Manager 338 days to respond to my complaint, and then at the end of his response he said I only have 28 days to appeal the decision but he did not include the appeal form in the letter! So now I am using up those days waiting for the form. Is that obstruction of justice? I think some officers are corrupt and that this force is reluctant to prosecute men for domestic abuse. How common are head on collisions in a car park with a pregnant women in the front seat? A few more examples: last year I complained that my neighbour downstairs was banging on the ceiling but the officer did nothing except report that I was delusional. He reported me to children's safeguarding and told them I was insane for making a noise complaint about my neighbour! This year when I reported that another one of my neighbours was instructing his two young children to operate a vehicle on the premises the police told me "it was not a police matter." So apparently children need protection from single mothers who complain about noisy neighbours but there is no reason to be alarmed when a man allows a ten year old to operate a motor vehicle. Really, after Cumbria Constabulary allowed Paul Worthington to get away with assaulting a toddler this is how some officers treat women and children?

Tried three times and was cut off each time. Last time I did get a phone to ring and then was cut off. Even after listening to the recorded message several times sill not sure if I was being redirected in the right direction.

Possibly the worst police force in the country. If you report a crime they don't turn up and then deny that you reported it. We're back to being what seems like a "policeless state" in Cumbria - a good place for criminals to live perhaps!! The next time I get my windows smashed in and my car vandalised I won't bother to report it because Cumbria Constabulary aren't interested. This is the second time Cumbria Police have messed up for me, and seem to spend most of their energy avoiding making any investigation, something they don't seem to think they're paid for. Maybe they're simply understaffed and don't have time for crime. I think the police should be nationally organised rather than locally, that way Cumbria Constabulary might have to level with other and better forces and when you report a crime you could expect to have it dealt with efficiently and promptly. There have been some terrible and devastating cases reported recently, and unfortunately Cumbria Constabulary appear to have a culture of avoiding to do work, which has resulted in tragedy, and will continue to result in tragedy if they don't change their mindset.
