Culzean Castle Camping and Caravanning Club site is in the grounds of the castle. We stayed a couple of nights on route to Inverness. The first day we arrived late afternoon. We were made to feel welcome by the staff. It is a reasonable sized site. We parked overlooking the coast, which is further away then the deceptive photograph in the brochure. There though is a good view of the islands (when the mist goes), and the woods surrounding Culzean Castle. The next day we spent our day at Culzean. There is much to look around. The castle obviously. The grounds are huge with lots of marked walks. The lakes and walled gardens are very pleasant. There are several restaurants/cafes in the grounds for snacks and meals. The entry to the castle and campsite is spectacular at night with the lighting effects. The campsite has a shop with basic items. The toilets and showers were all in good nick. There is a kids playground at the far end of the site, thankfully a long way off. Though out of school holidays it was not being used.

Not great for tents, most pitches are sloping. Grass could do with cutting finer to. Caravans would be fine but avoid if you have a tent. Good play area for the kids. Culzean Castle is only a walk away.

Very peaceful. And we'll kept site. Although you are miles from shops. So plan ahead. Some great views and walking distance to Culzean Castle. Which has many many acres of land to explore including Forest and beach walks. Walled gardens. The biggest children's activity centre I've ever seen. There is a restaurant and coffee shops on site as as well. £10 entry fee or free for N.T or S.N.T members. If you plan to stay here more than a week, it is a site for explorers and used as a base. People who stay, I found go to bed early, and get up early. children are welcome, and I have not heard a single noise from any child . There must be at least six families with children hear. It is still very relaxing. Lots of hot water. But showers are rushed in a morning , due to cleaning routine! 10:30 till 12.30 toilet areas are closed. This is why people get up earlier on this site. Pitches for caravans are all hard standing. I would like more room , as a caravan and awnings, fill the whole area, and there's nowhere to walk! only on the wet muddy grass. Bad design need to be bigger. the roads are narrow. to get your caravan onto the bay when other caravans are pitched alongside you, again poor design. Needs to move with the times. Caravans are now longer and wider! More people tow With bigger vehicles or vans now, and may absolute bug bear, is the rip off prices for WiFi. it should be free, especially at these prices. You can get a phone signal on O2 and a very very very poor TV signal. On the whole. I find the caravan and camping site need to look at LOVE TO STAY. in Shopshire to see what is offered for £30 a night per caravan. And catch up.!
