Crichton Castle
"Last entry is at 5pm. The castle has been home to medieval lords and Renaissance noblemen. Its sturdy tower of the late 1300s stands by a sophisticated facade created 200 years later. The castle's ruins, framed by a secluded valley, were celebrated by writer Walter Scott and artist J.M.W Turner."

Although it wasn't open we walked right up to and around the castle , beautiful tranquil location , well worth the short walk
Even though the inside of the castle is closed for winter it's still a beautiful place to visit. We went on New Years Day and it was so good to just stop and listen to.... nothing. Total silence which is so hard to find these days! Well worth the 5 minutes walk from the small car park up to the castle - highly recommended
I’ve visited many castles, palaces and manor houses however Crichton Castle took my breath away. The architecture, design and the location of the property is incredible. A stunning place to visit!
It is great outdoors place. Interesting to explore, only place with diamond pattern wall. Beautiful setting. It would be nice to have a little bit more information about local walks in the Glen below the castle and surrounding area. Well worth a visit for great day out.
Most amazing wall decoratikns I have seen on a castle. Onky 4 stars as the drive to it is along a single track and its a bit of a walk from the car park
Such a tremendous castle to visit nestled in a small glen, just outside Edinburgh. Not open in the winter time, but you’re able to walk around the outside
Easy to walk around, nice views. A little slippy when wet, so watch your step, but a cool trip. Quite small though, you probably wouldn't spend more that 30-45 minutes here.
Beautiful castle with beautiful scenery. Unfortunately it looks like it's been closed for some time. Such a pity. Need to update the website to let people know its closed or when it will be open. Historic Scotland membership wasted
Wonderful Historic Scotland site. Beautiful scenery. Love this castle. No public toilet on site.
