The highest of the arches is 126ft, making Craigmore the highest viaduct in Ireland. It is around a quarter of a mile long and is a prominent feature in the south Armagh landscape, visible for instance, from much of the surrounding upland.
Seems a very attractive structure to visit, however you will encounter the following: •Very impatient local drivers •Industrial Fencing everywhere •Rubbish, Litter and graffiti •Nowhere suitable to park •More very aggressive local drivers Come here with haste on you plate, I’ve never seen driving like it. Doing 30mph in a 30mph will have them behind you frothing at the mouth. Don’t know why the road is called “Kids Road”, I wouldn’t let a child near it.
Great place to walk the dog or just for the peace and quiet. There is a variety of birds for the twitcher in you. The path follows the wee brook and passes under the Craigmore viaduct the only sound apart from the birds and brook is the trains passing overhead.
Newry Train Bridge This 18 arch viaduct, close to Bessbrook outside Newry, sweeps across the valley of the Camlough River and carries the Belfast to Dublin railway line. The bridge was designed by John Benjamin Macneill, an eminent Irish civil engineer, with construction beginning in 1849 and the viaduct formally opening in 1852. Lovely 18 arch bridge. Rare. Even had the train go over as we stopped to admire
Beautiful and peacful walk
Great place for a stroll loving seeing the viaduct up close and realising how really tall it is peaceful as well.
This is the tallest viaduct in Ireland, and an impressive sight no doubt
As viaducts go it's a nice one
Fantastic piece of engineering considering it was opened in 1852. Very impressive up close.
