A lovely place. Best in the summer as there are the most flowers out then and the weather is better. The house is worth looking around and there is a nice view from the tower onto the impressive courtyard through the window. There is a nice short walk around the nice ground and woodlands. This place has lots of history to do with Guy Fawkes.
Lovely and very historical National Trust property linked, as it was, to the Gunpowder Plot amongst other things. Set in lovely grounds with great walks and scenery. Nice cafeteria, too.
Another great National Trust Property! Took my 2 kids, 2 & 5, so much space and nature to explore. The house is stunning and still in use by the family. Very much recommend this place!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Wonderful property, small and perfectly formed. Loved the grounds, cafe, great little woodland with mud kitchen and natural play area for the kids, seats for the adults! You might be lucky and glimpse an otter. Summer brings the Teddy zipline from the top of the tower. Wonderful staff. What's not to like?!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
The gardens are vast and eclectic, with everything from manicured wall gardens, rambling woodland walks and duck filled ponds. Plenty of walks around the estate for all levels of activity. The house itself is a marvel. Stunningly decorated, full of incredible art and a sense of history. Though we were sad not to be able to climb the tower and see the priest hole as it was closed for renovations.
Wonderful location, especially on a sunny, spring day. Fascinating history attached to the property and the volunteer guides were all very knowledgeable and added that extra information about past and present occupants. Lovely grounds too, well worth a visit and make time to go into the two churches too, all together made for a great trip out.
I have been visiting this National Trust property since I was a child, and went back as an adult recently. It was just as beautiful as I remembered. Sadly the tower and some rooms in that area weren't open due to ridiculously high temperatures at the time of our visit, but the bits that were open were beautiful, with lots of information about the property, the family and the history of the area. There was also an animal trail for my daughter to follow, so she had an interest going around the house too - nothing worse than a bored child! The grounds are stunning and there is also a coffee bar which sells light snacks and ice cream much needed on our visit! as well as a larger café for something more substantial. All in all, a beautiful place to visit and I hope to return soon.
Beautiful Tudor place. Barbecue on site for everyone to enjoy. Plus there is two cafes with indoor and outdoor seating. The house is stunning. In the North Wing the Throckmortons still live there and there is no access there. The gardens are beautiful and its only the beginning of spring. There are 3 walks you can do ranging from 1mile to 8 miles. Great day trip out. There is also Dovecote national trust but not open. There isn't much to see there.
We had a very pleasant visit here. Easy to find with plenty of car parking spaces. The grounds are all very well maintained and the house itself is a very interesting place to walk round.
Beautiful place, knowledgeable staff. Only downside was the cafes were exceptionally busy it was Good Friday, so can't mark them down for that so it was about a 40 minute wait for drinks. Take a picnic, and enjoy the gorgeous grounds.Visited onPublic holidayWait time10–30 minReservation recommendedNo
