I've read the other reviews and there seems to be a lot of negative opinions about this particular Costa Coffee, but we still thought we'd give it a try. It's situated right in the main entrance of Southend Hospital so you can't miss it when entering the building. It's also where people wait to collect their prescriptions, so they've got a great through flow of people, but unfortunately they just can't cope and as other reviewers have said, waiting times at the tills are horrendous. I picked up a salad but couldn't find any knives and forks, these along with serviettes are kept behind the counter and when they were handed to me I noticed that they weren't very clean. The hot chocolate I ordered for my wife was weak and watery, comparable to one from a cheap vending machine, not good! My salad was good and I also had a cake which was delicious so if you're not in any rush and aren't that bothered about dirty cutlery and huge prices then this is the place for you. We certainly couldn't recommend it and you would think with it being situated right in the main entrance of Southend Hospital, hygiene would be top on their priority list. Very disappointing.
Costa in Southend Hospital. Love the coffee. Not tried the food. Seating ok. Staff friendly and very helpful. Parking: The car park in Southend Hospital is notorious for limited parking during the day. Best time for appointments is first thing in the morning so that you can find a parking spot. Watch out for car park payment machines. I went today 11.2.23 and one machine on ground floor main entrance was out of order. The other wasn't accepting card payments. Luckily, there is a fee free cash machine in the WHSmith shop on ground floor. Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs, wide doorways with automatic doors.
Unfortunately they don't take cash and there is absolutely no reason why.
Friendly staff great service always get my hot chocolate when I at the hospital which is quite often only thing I think they could stay open a bit later like they Used to
Was there yesterday, it took longer to get a coffee than it did to see specialist and get x-ray done. Very little for anyone that has allergies. Other coffee places do a selection of gluten free cakes etc, but none of the Costa places do. Staff were ok but very slow
Coffee up to usual standard but tables unclean and cluttered with used cups and plates. Room for improvement, especially in a hospital!
Very busy but staff work hard and efficiently. The girl on the till offered to bring over drinks for the man in front of me who had some difficulty walking.
No coffee in my latte and oat milk was thin and not like my one at home. Actually I don’t believe it was oak milk as I feel a bit yucky! Not impressed
Been here a few times. It's handy to fill a hole in hospital and somewhere to go between appointments but the selection could be better. It gets confusing because the seating area of Costa doubles as a waiting area and you can't always get a seat.
Small Costa at hospital rude stuff then gave me hot drink when asked for cold and over charged me so rude !!!!!spent another in that order and still was rude and over charged
