Story

Cornwall’s Regimental Museum is a friendly and fun museum in Bodmin, Cornwall. We hold all kinds of events and activities on selected dates all year round, and welcome all visitors, including groups, children, and even well behaved dogs!

We are recognised as probably the finest Military Museum in the South West of England. As well as seeing our collections, come and explore our home, Bodmin Keep, which is a Grade II listed building, constructed at the time of the Napoleonic threats. Bodmin Keep was the home of Cornwall's Military life for over 150 years, and still has original features such as the great stone staircases and original fireplaces. You can even experience our Cold-War era military police cell!

Covering a period between 1702 until 2007, the museum's displays tell the stories of the Cornwall Volunteers and Volunteer Militia, the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry (DCLI), and we are extremely proud and honoured to be home to the National Collection of the Light Infantry (LI).

A fine collection of medals, weapons, uniforms, paintings and artefacts (as well as a few surprises in the collection!) are clearly displayed and will appeal to all age groups, enhancing and bringing to life much of the country’s history covered in the National Curriculum. The museum has an extensive library and archive and a team of research volunteers who are proud to help over 300 families per year discover their military family history.

Bodmin Keep is located on Lostwithiel Road, 100 yds from the Bodmin and Wenford Railway which was built to service the Barracks. Visitors to the steam railway receive up to 40% off museum entry with a valid ticket. For other admission rates and concessions please see our website.

We are a dog friendly museum!

Lots of changes since my last visit. The majority of the exhibition involves stairs to access the rooms. Need to have another visit to the top floor to read the poems again as they were very evocative of the sadness of war.

We went here because it was raining and we arrived at the beginning of a live show. They welcomed us very nicely and we were allowed to watch the show before we even paid! They showed several guns from the 19th century and explained the differences. They then even tried them. The staff was also dressed up and it was really interesting. The lady behind the reception was also very welcoming and very polite! She pointed out the exhibitions and made time for us to ask her about several things. They also had lots of games for children. My brother and I did the small quiz and I have to say that it was easy to understand. (I could translate the question and he then took off to find the particular item). They had lots of material from both world wars but also from several other wars GB was involved in. I was positively surprised to see that they also covered the end of the second world war. A small extra, they also have a piece of the Berlin wall! All in all, the museum is top and you can see the dedication and love in every detail.
