A truly impressive castle ruin can imagine it was spectacular back in its day. Waring it is quite a walk from the car park, and it's the cheapest to park in , but total worth it for the fantastic views to be had. The site is run by national trust, who do a great job of preserving what's left of the ruins. The court yard as you enter was fab with lots of kids' activities and picnic areas.
Have been coming to Dorset for 30 years and have driven past Corfe Castle but never stopped. Parking was easy to find , go early if you can as car park gets busy. Toilets can be found in this car park along with an information point and a cafe. Make sure you wear trainers or walking boots for this one. Cross over the road from the car park and you will see a gate with a sign to the castle . Lovely scenery to see along your way and also a few benches for a picnic down by the river , walk across another small road and though another gate to see the castle ruins . Once at the top of the path turn left and you will reach the castle , some lovely shops out the front along with a bakery and tea rooms as well as a sweet shop and a few pubs , lovely little village. If you are a national trust member remember to scan your card for the car park ticket and also they will scan it again at the entrance. The volunteers were very knowledgeable and friendly, there are quite a few steps that you will need to go up to see the top of the castle. Dogs are welcome here too. Amazing views of Swanage and the steam train at the top of the castle too. You never know you might even be lucky enough to see a peregrine falcon flying around as they have a big nest in the castle ruins. Lots of things for children to do in the summer holidays too.
What a beautiful castle, very impressive. The ruins are stunning and can be seen from far away. The views from the top of the ruins are spectacular. There are plenty of interactive spots like archery, true/false quiz and fun facts dotted in the grounds. As this is a National Trust property, members entry is free. The 'tea-room' cafe at the bottom of the ruins has a brilliant and clear view of the ruins so you can have a coffee or lunch over a beautiful view. Standard price for National Trust cafe so no surprises there. Corfe Castle is very close to the railway station served by diesel or steam train. An easy 7min walk through the local village. This is a dog friendly place with water bowls every 2-3min walk through the grounds. Definitely a must-see castle/ruins. Especially on a beautiful sunny day.
Great place to visit on the sunny day! Very enjoyable for kids and adults. Dog friendly. There is musketeer show running few times a day - great fun, lots of laughs and many occasions to participate in the show for kids and adults! Also, plenty of activities for kids to play while you can have a quick picnic on the green area. Definitely worth to visit!
Dating back to the 11th century this National Trust run fortification is truly spectacular. The panoramic views are breathtaking beautiful, with clear views across Dorset from different angles. You can even spot the Swanage steam train chugging past, so idyllic. The castle itself is on a steep hill and there is a 10-15 min walk from the car park through stunning woodland as you ascend upwards. A great chance to spot a multitude of different species of butterflies feeding on the native flora. As you enter the castle there are many different activities for children from archery to pottery. The walk to the top of the castle is steep but there are plenty of places to rest and enjoy the view on the way with information displayed about the history of this spectacular ruin.
Fantastic views of the surrounding area. Great information as you walk the grounds and a lovely little tea room with outdoor space that allows dogs. We didn’t need it but they have an all terrain wheelchair available not sure if you have to pay to aid access for everyoneVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Great place to visit if you are down this way. It's a National trust, so cost £11 per adult. You can buy yearly membership but we don't go to enough to use it. However you could use that ticket to come and go all day. Each section has an information board, which you can also scan for Audio or BSL, which I thought was a great idea. I can't say if it worked well. A beautiful village with a steam train, lots of pubs and places to get tea. We didn't stop at any though as we were on our cycles and had to get back to our camp site. Great for adults, I don't think you appreciate it as kids. Although the school trip seemed to be enjoying their trip with the very informative and funny guide.
Experienced a guided tour by a very enthusiastic and entertaining tour guide, they kept the crowd entertained with interesting facts about the castle’s history with an interactive presentation. Amazing views of the village from the castle. Kids are entertained with various educational activities on the grounds near the entrance. A wonderful entertaining experience, highly recommended!!
Lovely afternoon wander around the castle grounds. Stunning views from the top. There is even a Peregrine nest in the ramparts with instructions to keep noise down so not to disturb them. Well worth a visit, so historic and atmospheric.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
National Trust owned site. Nice to wander around the ruins and there's enough information to find out the history of the castle. Corfe Castle Village is also beautiful to wander around. There are some lovely little shops. Probably gets very busy in high season but was so lovely today. There also some walks from Corfe in various directions onto the Purbecks with stunning views
