Large preserved town and an excellent museum. The town itself is well preserved with some signage to help interpret. The museum is worth seeing on its own - extremely well preserved items with very good descriptions all in very clean cases or in some cases, completely open. Well worth a trip.
Corbridge is a really amazing fort and Roman town. It was a very cosmopolitan place in the Roman times. There were two detachments of legionaries stationed here. The museum has magnificent artefacts on display including legionary armour that has been found/excavated. It has a range of interesting inscriptions and an excellent description of the different historical layers of the site. It is well worth a visit!
Wow what an amazing place. Just like Vindolanda you are greeted with an excavated site of what was a key and strategic Roman village. This is an English Heritage site and it cost my fiancé and I £10 each to get in. There’s a great museum in here as well and a little gift shop too. Please bear in mind if you have mobility issues there is a little path that goes around the site, but going through the centre of the site is not recommended as it’s covered with a lot of rocks and pebbles. Good amount of information on boards spaced around the area too. Toilets available here as well. Really friendly staff here. Highly recommended.
Great day out on one of English heritages Hadrian's wall visitor sites...plenty of parking on site and a good museum to wander round before visiting the main site...main site is the remains of the excavated Roman town... bearing in mind this is a small fraction of what would of originally existed...we did the guided tour which cost us nothing extra to go on and was brilliant and so informative.neil was our guide and brilliantly explained everything you need to know about the site....well worth a day out for anyone ..
Normal English Heritage entrance fee. Free for members. Corbridge is a little bit removed from the main Hadrian Wall sites so is less busy. It’s also different as it developed from a military site to a town. The remains of the granary are the best preserved Roman granary in the UK. Both the free audio tour and paid guidebook are good. The museum is worth a visit. Look out for the inscription mentioning Quintus Lollius Urbicus born in a tiny town in what’s now modern day Algeria but who became governor of Britain. Also, the famous Corbridge Lion statue which was refashioned into a fountain.
Beautiful little spot. Informative museum & an audio guide that tells you everything you need to know. Friendly staff & very good for the children.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
A small site but with the visit. You start in the museum which has alot on display showing live in Roman times. Outside are parts of the roman town including barracks and granary. Lots of information boards explaining what's on display and the excavation done in Edwardian times. Only a 7th is uncovered but enough to make you wonder what it was like. Guide book and audio tours avadible. Toilets on site but no cafe
Brilliant day out, really interesting audio tour free if an English Heritage member. Site is all easy access as pretty flat and dog friendly even in the little museum where there are some real gems of finds to see.
Really enjoyed this. Decent sized museum with lots of artefacts and a timeline of the town, also audio tour of the site was informative. Felt quite special to be able to walk on the very same cobbles laid & trodden on 2000 years ago.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
