As castles go it's a nice small one. The grounds are nice and photogenic as well. The reason for the 4 stars are two - 1. The best view of the castle that you can see only on fridge magnets and mugs can only be seen by helicopter, not by visiting on foot. 2. There is nothing very remarkable here. It's just one of hundreds of castles that you can find in England. Typically, you would want to spend maximum of an hour here. The grounds are not large enough for a picnic lunch but you could take children here for a walk about. It's very easily accessible with only a little hill to get to it. There is even a disabled car park right next to the visitor centre. Entrance is cheap about £3.50 and free for English Heritage members. Don't make special plans to visit this castle but if it's on your way or you are in the area, it's worth a look,e specially for photographs.

Worth a visit. I bought tickets at the kiosk thinking you needed them to go up the tower however it was free access to everywhere. No idea what the ticket was for!?

Great day out! Fun for the kids with an added history quiz as you go! Great for picnics. You can spend as much time as you like here. Yes it's small but big on character. We had a great time with the grand kids.

English heritage Castle and Keep.(it helps to have a membership to keep the cost down) Visitor centre with shop and toilets.Free parking at bottom of the hill below castle. The keep has been restored and go right to the top for some stunning views of the local area. The rest is ruins with information boards in situ. Not a massive amount to do,enough to waste a couple of hours.

Not impressed at all. Felt cheated for what's on offer. You can wander the ground without paying the £6.50 entrance fee. Glad I didn't fork out £3 for the guidebook
