Great for a quick trip with informative sign boards, projected characters inside the keep, and a small museum. Not a huge amount to keep the kids entertained ... unless you feel like buying them swords or jousting poles and letting them attack each other Definitely worth a visit when they have reenactments on though.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
A little castle that is well worth a visit. A small shop and museum, but the best bit is the great views from the top. I nearly lost my hat on a very blustery day, but great views ~20 miles in some directions on a good day. Access up was a decent staircase.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
We visited on a gorgeous sunny day. Staff were super friendly. And the grounds were incredible. A definite must see and would love to return. There are comic strips placed on different areas of the site, and there are also animations of characters. Fantastic.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
On a nice day, this is a great place to visit. The staff on site have a true passion for the place and are very helpful and the keep itself is incredible. There are ice-creams sold at the gift shop so I would recommend taking your own picnic as there are plenty of places to sit. There is the option of a proper tour or you're allowed to just wander on your own. I did enjoy how they presented the history in comic book form and the way they have set up projectors of the historical people to tell the story of the castle which makes it entertaining for and easy to follow for the younger ones. There is a paying car park nearby and the prices are reasonable. This was a nice little trip out.
What a lovely castle! The views from the top are amazing! So glad we visited on a clear day. It's not a huge place so there's not a lot to do, but the staff have made great use of the space with lots of interactive posts and holograms that speak to you. And the walk around the castle is lovely. Just be careful of the drop! The 2 ladies at the entrance were lovely and very knowledgeable about the castle and the surrounding area. And we even got to smell the smelly blocks! It passed on a lovely morning for us all, even the kids enjoyed it. I'd definitely recommend a visit to Conisbrough Castle.
An interesting ruined castle that offers good views once you climb to the top of the unique main tower. An informative museum. Unfortunately there is no car park, you have to park down a narrow lane. I think the castle could have been a major attraction if it was located in a tourist hotspot.Visited onWeekday
Really enjoyed our visit. Luckily for us it was a lovely day too. Parking is very poor though. Disabled can use the carpark but if you don't have a disabled badge you have to park on the road. I parked up from the bus stop so I wasn't obstructing, but the bus driver wasn't happy when he passed. A staff member did tell me that Cara have been known to have wrong mirrors hit on the road.
The staff were very friendly. The castle was beautiful. It had great animations that informed us a lot about the history of the site and the people who lived in it. My son loved making a wish and throwing a coin in the well. We would highly recommend it.
My eldest had been on a school trip, and had so much fun that he insisted on taking us along as afterwards. Parking was really easy, although I think we missed the official car park and ended up in a privately owned car park - a warning here that you cannot pay cash for parking, and they charge a "convenience fee" it'd be more convenient to allow us to pay cash, honestly. On arrival, we were greeted outside the visitors' centre, and the greeter checked our tickets, provided a flyer advertising English Heritage, and an activity sheet for the kids. There was enough information on the boards to keep the grown-ups occupied; without keeping us reading so long that the kids got bored, and the interactive displays - describing a visit for King Henry II to the Lord of the castle - kept the kids' interest as well. Note that the Visitors' Centre has only a small café, providing tea/coffee only and not hot food or full meals - so plan to visit a local pub or bring a lunchbox/picnic with you.
Decent enough castle ruin inner keep is accessible though narrow staircase - smooth on the roof stairs. Not a large castle - largely intact keep roof/top level shows some loss, partially ruined outer walls. Great 360 views from the top.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
