Amazing cafe. Stopped off for a drink and snack and was very happy. Delicious drinks, including ice cream milkshakes, as well as home made scones which tasted amazing. Location is situated in the middle of Lynton right next to the main road. However, due to the gorgous plants and covering, you could not tell. Would definitly go again.
Absolutely disgusting prices. Paid almost £8 for the smallest Capucinno I have ever been served in my life and 2 scoops of Ice Cream in a cone. The service was friendly enoughhence the 2 stars and the coffee tasted quite nice but charging people almost £4 for a coffee of that size is a disgrace. We will be spending a lot of time in Lynmouth during the summer but this place will never get another penny out of us.
Thought a milk shake costing £5.90 would be something special. It wasn't! Just tasted like a standard, and was not even large? Thought £12 expensive for a milk shake, can of lemon, and medium steak pasty, and all tasted average.
Stopped off for elevenses at this lovely cafe. All seating was outside still, but weather was fine today and the eating area somehow manages to create a flower garden feel in the middle of 2 roads. Milkshakes, with an option of whichever flavour ice cream scoop blended into it, were also a good call, although more expensive than other drinks. [Mark's top tips: Try the vegan sausage roll instead of the usual cake- so glad I did, best one ever... even nicer than Greggs.]
My wife, my son, and I visited for a cream tea. The lady behind the counter didn't smile, and was abrupt. My son had purchased a pastie from elsewhere. It was far too hot to eat, as it had literally come out of the oven. We sat down, my son put the pastie which was in a bag, onto the table. He had absolutely no intention of eating it until we had left the premises, as we had all noticed the signs around which read, 'Food not purchased from here, is not to be consumed on these premises'. The owner came around wiping tables, then abruptly shouted in front of everyone "I hope you are not planning on eating that here". To which my wife gave him a clear explanation, as to why the bag was on the table. My wife then went up to the counter explaining, that he might have approached us more tactfully. On leaving he then shouted out "Don't come back here again". We found that most embarrassing, especially in front of other customers. I gave him a piece of my mind not swearing as he had really displayed rudeness beyond expectation. I cannot recommend this place to anyone, extremely bad customer relations and very unfriendly staff.
Amazing place. Lovely cream tea and great service. Also very covid safe. Food handled safely also table coasters put down when you have finished for them to clean table... Amazing
We have been visiting Lynmouth almost every year for over a decade. Went there again last week and was sadly disappointed. Prices trippled, and quality of the service went down. We always go there to have a cream tea - a pot of tea, with milk and sugar on a side, with 2 scones. To our disappointment, we were told that this is no longer a part of a service, and we can purchase a small watery tea with sugar and milk already added on our behalf in a paper cup, and buy 1 scone separately with a wooden knife?! Even Ikea has higher standards. This costed us triple what it did before. The only good thing was that the scone was nice, but it would be very difficult to make it taste bad, they just order it from bakery and nuke it before service. On top of it pizzas and pasties / sausage rolls, even though tasting nice, served in a paper bag takeaway style. No cutlery, no plates, no condiments, yet prices that would make your eyes water. Few years back they would be a bit conservative whilst ripping grockels off, now it's just blatantly obvious, and they are not even trying to hide it behind a nice smile or a friendly chat - almost polite is all you get. I think there will come a day when they will look back and ask themselfs 'where are all the customers...?'
Came here a few years ago. Our experience this time was awful. They don’t do a traditional ‘Cream Tea’, you have to buy the tea and scones separately, which is probably just a way to rip people off; £2.50 for a paper cup with a tea bag and hot water in it, and £3.50 for a SINGLE scone with jam and clotted cream! Then they have the stones to tell you to clean up after yourself, which makes it seem like they are too lazy to even send someone round to clean tables. A cream tea in Lynmouth should be a staple menu item, and should be tea in a teapot, with a proper china cup, and TWO scones. For the prices they charge in there, that’s the least I’d expect. My family won’t be returning ever again.
NOT RECOMMENDED. Rude and obnoxious owner who made faulty assumptions when loudly addressing my family "I hope your not planning on eating that here". This was in relation to a bag on the table containing a pasty that was merely cooling. Yes it was bought elsewhere and we were well aware of the signs staggered about the cafe regarding NOT eating food purchased elsewhere on site, which is perfectly understandable. We had purchased a cream tea x 2 and a can of coke for my son from this cafe. When I spoke to the owner privately regarding his former actions he informed me " this is my cafe and I can do what I want". I informed him that yes he could but being rude in both tone and manner was not acceptable. Upon leaving, after having disposed of our plates and cups he proceeded to shout " don't come back here again". I replied he need not worry as I wouldn't dream of it, again informing him that he was extremely rude and unwelcoming . As a former mental health professional, I would strongly advise this man to embark upon some interpersonal skills training sooner rather than later.
Went to get a cream tea experience...shocked to see that it is all served from a hatch in takeaway cups..I guess it's either due to short staff or convenience. .but not what's expected in a quaint seaside town...2 stars given for garden area..but be warned it's very much serve yourself...
