Hidden gem of history with a nice little cafe - very poignant if you are aware of the history to see two gun barrels from HMS Hood outside. Great walks in either direction - yes on a grey day the coastal path can seem bleak but take some binoculars and you will be rewarded with some great bird spotting - saw my first Marsh Harrier this time!
Had really lovely walk around coalhouse fort and what lovely blossom there is . Plenty of nature to see down their. Also somewhere to walk the dog. This is a place where you can go and visit the Fort it self or just want to get out of the house foe five minutes.
At the end of a dead end road is a place to walk by the Thames. The Fort itself is not picturesque and there's evidence that some people come here to drink alcohol - in one of the buildings are lots of empty cans. In the daytime there are large areas where you can kick a ball around and paved paths for non motorised vehicles. A pond is used for model sailboats. The views are pretty over to Kent.
In Coalhouse Fort Park, there are lots of different trails you can take and explore wildlife, spectacular views of the Thames Estuary, an impressive historic fort, riverside, parkland, grassland, saltmarshes, WW2 radar tower and much more! Coalhouse Fort was constructed between 1861 and 1874 to combat the threat of invasion from France. The present fort is built on the site of earlier fortifications and was used and adapted in both the First and Second World Wars. With lots of picnic areas to chose from, benches and even playground for kids, it is great place for whole family and your furry friends! Well maintained grounds and very peaceful and also, very good place to come for running and cycling! Lots of information boards around to read to get to know more about the history of this amazing place. The fort was closed when we have visited and will be closed for the foreseeable future, but don't let you put it off as this place won't let you down with other things you can explore there. Although you can't fly drones there, the pictures you will take there will be very nice because the place is very pic There is 'The Engine Room Cafe there' which open every day between 10 am and 2 pm with cold or hot drinks, snacks and ice-cream. Toilet facilities are just next door from the cafe. The car park is reasonable size and free of charge. The Coalhouse Fort park also host a variety of events, from family fun days and wildlife walks to military re-enactments.
Went here for a free, no frills, half term afternoon out. Lots of walking, playpark and crabbing session : just add kids, picnic, string, bacon and a bucket. Playground: Swings n things. Dog-friendliness: There were excited dogs, they were mostly on leashes. Waggy tails. Poop bins available for disposal of dog waste. Picnic area: Metal benches with tables to sit and enjoy picnic food. Didn't see any commercial food outlets, so pack drinks and snacks for yourself. Please keep Great Britain great, take rubbish home with you. No excuses.
Only visited the exterior of this place but very impressive and a nice coastal walk, toilets and cafe on site too, looking forward to venturing inside next time
Lovely peaceful grounds to walk and picnic ,also a cafe if you want a snack. Nice for dogs and a small park for children. Some radio controlled boat enthusiasts to watch too.
Beautiful Place for Day out with family, Dog walk, children playground. Free car parking, Cafe, public toilets available. Toilets are very clean .
I like this park it has a nice friendly cafe called The Engine room . An historic Fort and its right by the River Thames with nice walks along edge.
Fantastic original condition fort. Good cafe set in a beautiful bit of parkland right on the Thames river bank
