The ambiance of the building shines through, it's feels authentic and special. My double room was large, amazing spa jacuzzi bath with great shower overhead. No need for a shower curtain - a pet hate. Food was awesome - never eaten such succulent and fat free lamb. Breakfast was probably the best I have eaten in a hotel, even though it was buffet style. All hot but more importantly the sausage and bacon was great quality.
My boyfriend and I had to come back to this wonderful hotel! We came here back in February and have had another stay this weekend. We cannot recommend this hotel enough, and say enough good things about it. Yet again, the staff went above and beyond to make our stay blissful. The food at the restaurant was stunning - we had breakfast on the both days, and also an evening meal, which was 10/10! Room service was also wonderful, we could enjoy beautiful food whilst enjoying the comforts of the room. We already can’t wait to plan our next stay. Would recommend to anyone and everyone who is looking for a pure blissful break.
Love, love, love, this place!!! The history, the ambiance, the quirkiness. Every part of our stay was lovely. The staff was amazing and very knowledgeable, the beds were comfortable, the dreamy jet tub and even and the restaurant was fabulous. I generally do not eat at hotel restaurants because they are usually overpriced and bland but this one was great! The hotel is ideally located; a short walk to the wharf, restaurants, bars, and shops. And to top it off you can’t beat the price. What a value for the richness and timeless antiquity.
There is a historic sense of place and feel about the listed building that’s evident from both the external facade and the interior. Location is great in terms of proximity to the Bay. Staff were welcoming & helpful. The room was comfortable & grand. Double jacuzzi bath is a treat! The interior hall was largely out of bounds to guests and open for functions only. As a marketing ploy this should be opened up for all and its grandeur and history promoted as this in effect was and should be the heart of the exchange. There were corridors leading to & from the rooms that gave a temporary works in progress and unkempt feel to the place which was a shame and the possible difference of my 4 star as opposed to 5 star rating. Would recommend and look forward to staying again.
Had my wedding here and pretty much all of our wedding party stayed. So definitely recommend it as a wedding venue. It's such a gorgeous building. THE STAFF!! 10/10 Lovely, friendly and so helpful, just brilliant. Culley's Restaurant, lovely place to eat, really nice menu. Also recommend going there for a Sunday roast. Some parts of the rooms are a bit tired, the rooms and corridors don't have great lighting. The waterfall showers over the baths are a bit of a faf. These are just little things I didn't like because I'm fussy. I definitely recommend staying here
Hotel was great and I woukd go back. The rooms are beautiful, clean and had a large jacuzzi. The staff at the reception and restaurant where friendly and helpful. We dined in the restaurant for evening meal and breakfast. The food was very nice. There is a lack of parking so we parked in a multi story car park about 10 minutes walk away as all the road parking was max an hour, permit only etc.
It's like the Adams family home, all wood paneling and Victorian style chairs. The staff were helpful and the room very comfortable, albeit would be better if I could heat the rooms a little more. The jacuzzi was a nice surprise. The area is a bit dodgy, you are close to the Quay restaurant and shopping areas but you are also close to Bute Road - which a Welsh colleague described thus "dangerous mate - be careful at night"
This hotel is fantastic for it's price point, the rooms are great and the overall atmosphere is really really pleasant. The hotel staff are very accomodating and friendly and I couldn't have asked for better servers. The caveat is that the rooms are very dusty, turning a lamp on will reveal the abundance of dust particles, and in some cases some of the bathroom functions may not work. Other than that, would definitely recommend this place.
Room was big but carpet should hve been hoovered...overall good stay got woken up few times floor boards outside some1 walking in corridor. Breakfast !!! Was awful not many in hotel so cooked to order...sausages very pale scrambeled eggs runny beans cold didn't eat a lot and hate leaving food.....building work being done not expressed.. was so looking forward to my birthday stay.
Thank you to James who went out of his way to give us excellent service. Unfortunately, the first room we were given was not suitable. It had extremely bright white LED lights in the bedroom, bathroom and lamps. I find these lights painful due to photosensitivity, and could feel a cluster headache starting shortly after arriving. I explained this to James and he was so helpful. Not only did he move us to a different room immediately, he also took us to see the lighting in the 3 empty rooms and let us pick which one we preferred. The only issue is that all the bathrooms at the Coal Exchange have BW LEDs, so be aware of this if you are sensitive to lights or suffer from migraines / cluster headaches.
