Lovely, friendly staff and the caravan was very modern and clean. Great quality fish and chip shop on site and the white chocolate crepe from the refreshment stall was possibly the best I have ever eaten. Website says keys to be collected by 5pm, so I did have a panic as we weren't getting there until 7pm, but upon speaking to reception on the phone, the reception was actually open until 8pm and after that the keys could still be collected from the bar.
We stayed in a lovely chalet, no. 145. I would highly recommend it! The owners were really friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Chalet 145 had ample parking adjacent to it, great kitchen facilities, two bedrooms, a good sized lounge which was very comfortable with lots of light, and all the amenities you could need. The holiday village itself has a swimming pool which the kids loved, an arcade with games for all ages, shop, and a restaurant plus ice cream bar. It's right on the beach and there's a lovely walk over the hill to the wonderful coastal town of Aberystwyth with gorgeous views over the sea. There's so much to do and see here including eating good fish and chips at The Chip Box 4! Heading the other direction is a great hike to Borth beach. We enjoyed all the beaches and the children and adults had no end of fun. In summary this is a location and place to stay for a short or long trip to the Welsh seaside.
We've just stayed here during half term in a privately rented caravan which was 5*, so for the sake of this review i am just talking about the site here. Initially we entered via Google maps recommendations which was down a tight single track road, and we arrived at a beach with absolutely no signage of a caravan site and lots of concrete bollards. We found an open gate and decided to chance that this was the correct site and started driving through it. Although I haven't stayed on a caravan site since I was a child, I remembered that one being very well sign posted with "you are here" boards scattered around the site. There are non here and all I was equipped with was a poor resolution image which when zoomed in was difficult to read and half the caravans you couldn't see the numbers on. The speed humps are crippling and I agree with others that they're a nightmare to navigate when your car is fully loaded with stiffer or lower suspension, but I do get why they're there as the roads can get busy and there are no footpaths when walking around with children and dogs. As others have said, it's a dog friendly place, yet non of the buildings allow dogs. So when we walked down one evening with the dog for a treat meal instead of cooking, and a plan to use the arcades, I ended up having to come all the way back with the dog we were right the other end of the park as it was windy and smokey in the outdoor area. So essentially all you can do with a dog here is leave the dog in the caravan or walk off the site or on the beach. We went to use the amusements after tea, after realising that it would be our only chance since we would normally have the dog with us when we visit the beach, but at 6.30 ish we were told they were closing! One morning the children went down with their grandad to play on the karts which broke down and get an ice cream, but grandad reported back that the ice cream staff member was rather unhelpful in giving change to use on the karts and then mumbled when he came back and wanted to buy ice creams! The shop was limited so I recommend a good shop elsewhere before you get here, especially if you plan to cook your own food or enjoy an alcoholic drink in your caravan! That also shut when it wanted and not as advertised. I appreciate October isn't the busiest time but it did feel on occasions like we were busy interrupting the staffs phone time when we wanted to buy or use things. We only had one meal on site and although some of the things weren't available, the food wasn't bad. I read that people are asked to be quiet after 9pm, but there were plenty of people walking past our caravan loudly, shouting and running about at almost midnight obviously not the sites fault. The location is lovely with some nice views, and a nice pebbly/shingly beach. It was quiet in October half term but I imagine it would quickly fill up in the summer! There are a couple of small kids parks on site and I can't fault the cleanliness of the site and how well it's maintained regarding the ground works. I did read that the basketball court got locked at 7.30 so for older children I'm not sure what they could do but certainly for under 10s there's a lot to keep them entertained. The walks are not advertised though with nothing else to do with dogs, they should be! but we enjoyed walking the cliff path to Aberystwyth which was only around 40 minutes. At the top you can get on the cliff railway or enjoy their cafe, bowling, crazy golf etc. There are also plenty of other walks to do so for the more outdoorsy people this is a great base. Playground: Several small playgrounds dotted about for younger children Dog-friendliness: Some caravans, on the beach, not allowed in any buildings/eateries or arcades though!
Nice place for a short break, family friendly park. Seafront attractions include a small fairground and arcade. Fish and chip shop on site. Swimming pool and laundry also Evening entertainment in the club house
Lovely caravan. Very quiet out of season. A 1 mile walk into Aberystwyth along the coast path, with some hill climbing, is nice.
The site has gone worse and worse over the years, No improvements to the park. Entertainment very poor, no kids club, the pool was cloudy and the food at the front over priced and horrible. I know of 2 families who were ill after eating there. It’s such a shame as was a lovely place just avoid at all costs
We stayed at Clarach Bay Holiday Village - Fri 7th to 10th to Oct 2022. This was our 1st Trip here to Mid Wales. What a beautiful peaceful location close to the Beach and very near to Aberstwyth. Check in was quick and we were quickly inside our lovely Caravan. Hoseasons had randomly upgraded us to a bigger Bronze+ Caravan. Great spacious layout inside, and spotlessly clean with eveything you needed. Thank you Hoseasons for the caravan Upgrade we were very comfortable and enjoyed it very much. Claire from Housekeeping called us at 7:30pm to check that all was OK with our Caravan and we had all that we needed. For us that was excellent Customer Service. Thanks Claire. The Holiday Village site is well sign posted and simple to find your way around. The park grounds was well maintained no litter. Lots of wildlife around day and night - especially Birds : So quiet at night. Wonderful Sunsets : Good choices of Eat-in or Take away Food and Snacks plus a shop that are high quality. We didn't use the bar in the evening so can not comment. We found all the Holiday Village Staff were so friendly and helpful with our questions. We had no problems at all, and it was quick to drive by car to nearby Aberystwyth. You just had to take it slow & steady in the car on the sharp bend near the holiday village. Must Do: - 1 mile Costal Walk from the Village to Aberystwyh offering superb views. Many thanks again to all the wonderful helpful friendly staff. We would highly recommend Clarach Bay Holiday Village to any Couples or Familes. We hope to return again next year. Warm Regards, D & K G, Shropshire - Booking Reference: 27590648
Very peaceful and beautiful atmosphere without any disturbance whatsoever. : I really enjoy the swimming pool, it's so worth the money. This holiday village is 100% disability friendly to people with autism like me. It's also very family friendly :D
Stayed 9th June for a week. Lovely place very clean and peaceful. Don't miss the stunning sunset. Couple of things I think could be improved - opening and closing times displayed on pizza/pub bar, same for chip shop and snack bar. Access is good in most areas for anyone with a disability, however if in a wheelchair or use a scooter it is very difficult to get to beach as most access is steps with no hand rails, there are two slopes but covered in sand and shingles which makes it really difficult or impossible.
Quiet holiday park with Aberystwyth town over the hill. It has a nice child friendly club on site and a small indoor swimming pool. Nice getaway for a few days. Though club entertainment can be lacking and often repeated. Playground: 3 play parks spread around the sight. Biggest situated at the entrance. Dog-friendliness: You can take your dog to the park and on parts of the beach though not all. Caravan depends on booking.
