Intriguing church, said to have links to the gunpowder plot, and with wall paintings some have suggested may reflect knowledge of the Americas before the discoveries of Christopher Columbus. Whatever the truth is, it's well worth a visit. Parking is free on the road outside.

It's a beautiful church with mediaeval drawings on walls and a Witch's room

Well worth a visit.

I had a brief visit to St Andrews on 9 July 15. The church has a good feel, interesting tombs and remarkable wall paintings. I loved how the church only gradually opens up its most interesting secrets - such as the steps up into the parvis, the old bibles, the Jacquetta (v special despite graffiti) and other tombs and the death of St Edmund. Two things confused me about the church leaflet - though it may be my interpretation that is incorrect because the generations and frequency of "Everards" is confusing 1. I think it was Symon alias Everard (married to Agnes Clarke) who died at Towton. His son Everard (1440-1509) married Jacquetta Ellis. One of their sons was Everard who died in 1540 and whose tomb (headless) lies in the "Edmund" room 2. The numbers / gender of children attributed to Kenelm and Anne Cope. Here, your information seems supported so it must be my records (Cope family tree) that need amendment and I will double check. Please do correct me if the above is not right Peter
