Really disappointed with the customer care at the surgery today. The medical care has been great and I can't fault it. However when trying to arrange something very specific with the reception team, I hit a brick wall. This was the third call I'd had to make to try and arrange a specific blood test. I was told they couldn't help me due to the day the test fell on, and to basically go else where as they don't do Saturday blood tests. When I asked for help about how to arrange this I was given really poor vague information, and basically told they don't know. After doing all my own leg work for half an hour during my work day, calling round hospitals for information I called back to make my appointment and express how upset and disappointed I was that something already really stressful was being made more stressful by a sheer lack of understanding and desire to help. Arranging a blood test should be quite a basic thing. I was told that the lady I spoke to was busy on the front desk with other patients during my call. I would have been happy to hold and speak to someone else. I was told, they were all too busy on the phone and that they just couldn't help. An extremely upsetting situation, I had to then call round two hospitals myself to find the information I needed. The reception team told me that it is quicker to do it myself than for them to do it and they are suffering from winter pressures and the person I had spoken to was very upset. Not half as upset as I have been this morning I can assure you. I'm so upset that the call brought me to tears and there seemed to be no desire to even try to help, they simply wanted me off the phone. Absolutely no compassion. FYI having worked in a customer facing environment for a long time, the person in front of you at a desk, can see you are on the phone and 9 times out of 10 are happy to wait. The person on the phone is still a patient and should be no less of a priority than the person in front of you. I was happy to wait or have a phone call back to resolve the situation but was told sharply and flatly, sometimes we just can't help. Really poor effort, all I wanted was a little help to work out the best solution, but was met with disdain. We all have busy days and no doubt the NHS are under pressure at the minute, however it is no reason to lose general basic politeness. Don't work in a care industry if you don't have an compassion to help people.
