Chris Robinson opened his shop New Street on the Barbican after handing his last piece of academic work in September 1978. Over the next few years he went around the City producing hundreds of original drawings of the area, pen and ink illustrations that he made into prints and then, in 1982, started writing about them for the Plymouth Herald.
Chris’s first book, Plymouth As Time Draws On, followed in 1985 and since then more than 25 titles have appeared on various aspects of the City. The latest, Victorian Plymouth, is a brand new offering - not to be confused with a book of engravings he produced 25 years ago. It is a fascinating photographic tour around the City and it's satellite communities in the Victorian era.
In 1993 Chris and his colleague, Alan Tibbitts, also ventured into the film market and to date they have produced a dozen full length films about Plymouth, including the latest, Plymouth City Centre, Then & Now.
Also available from Chris's Grade II* shop, at 34 New Street, are a selection of notelets, cards and framed, colour-washed prints.
