Like walking into a scene from the league of gentlemen. Really bizarrely outdated, overstaffed and under serviced. The cafe felt like it was decorated as a nursery. 3 servers, 1 chef and 1....manager? But they're only serving tea and cake...oh and toast! Despite there being menus on every table, and a specials board on display. The tea was hot and good. The sugar bowl was dirty see picture. The jam looked like brown sauce! The cakes seemed okay. There seemed to be a pottery class going on around the corner for about 20, which I guess gave rise to the grand necessity for 5 staff to make teas...
A great place, brought my daughter here often to paint pottery and held craft parties for her birthday. The cafe is charming and has a welcoming family feel. The decor is more rustic than most modern eateries which is a real antidote to the monotonous insipid decor you often find in chain restaurants. I have always found the staff helpful and friendly. We will miss this place when it closes.
A lovely crafty morning down at Poppies painting bowls. Staff were both friendly and helpful, explaining the process to us. The coffee and cake afterwards in the cafe were delish. Can't wait to see our bowls once they have been glazed and fired.
We come here regularly with my daughter - it’s a great place to do crafts, while having good cake and tea. They also have really good ice cream. Lots of plants to choose from too!
I really wanted to like this place, I really wanted to buy some fake flowers but firstly they had very small stock and secondly nothing was priced up. I could have called somebody out to help but I simply wanted to buy to my budget and not choose things and then find I couldn't afford them. No fresh flowers either so I wonder if it's closing down, which would be a shame as I have heard the fliers are amazing. Still plenty of bedding plants etc outside but I'm not a gardener so that's of no interest to me. So I'm sad but my experience was not great.
Exceptional home grown plants I should know, I used to own a garden business run by a very entertaining guy literally- who plays the recorder no you're not tripping! Lovely cafe but the big draw are the plants for the quality and expert advice from the owner and staff. Happy to pay a little extra to support a small business and recommend
Very friendly and helpful staff in the art and craft room. Very relaxing few hours spent painting small animals. Great range of products to either paint or decopatch. Highly recommend. You have to go back to pick up the painted items as they have to go in the kiln.
Very strange and unpleasant place. Plants were dead in the nursery. The cafe was appalling. Menu and decor is from the 1980’s. Sandwich and jacket potato filling combinations are not compatible. We were overcharged by £3.20 and had to request a refund when we realised their mistake. I asked for a caramel latte and got a caramel with a bit of latte. They don’t know the difference between butter and spread and seem not to have butter at all. Staff look extremely scruffy and are not very friendly. It wasn’t pleasant having a direct view into the kitchen watching the chap scratching his beard, rubbing his nose and face and then putting my crisps on the plate. Not worth bothering unless you enjoy wasting cash.
I absolutely love this little garden centre. Nice selection of plants and pots as well as a lovely cafe and craft centre. We have had great fun painting ceramics and everything is reasonably priced
We have had our winter and summer baskets made by Roger at First Choice for nearly 20 years and without fail they have been second to none long lasting and good value for money. We dread the day he finally hangs up his trowel. His crew will be a hard act to follow!
