What an excellent spot in Chester to find independent traders, especially food outlets. Check out the Chester in Lego exhibit! We had food from Big Lola's a couple of times during our mini break, great service and delicious food. Coffee from Bean and Cole was excellent. The central seating area has been well designed and is kept clean and tidy. Recommended and will definitely return.
On a recent trip to Chester, friends suggested checking out the new indoor market and food hall located near the historic city walls. Having read mixed reviews online, I wasn't sure what to expect from this modern interpretation of a traditional market space. Right away upon entering, it was clear this was no normal market. You will find a very sleek, warehouse-style interior which feels more like a bustling food court than your typical greengrocers and stalls. Rows of various dining counters and bars lined the open-plan area, all very busy serving a mixed clientele. Beyond the food, a collection of other retailers like a cheese shop, butcher, pet food and plant stalls added dash of market atmosphere. Upmarket perhaps, but the quality and presentation shone through. The variety of cuisines on display is impressive: from Mexican tacos to Thai curry, gourmet Scotch eggs to wood-fired pizzas. Visiting in weekend and wet weather - the place was packed! Spotting an empty table was a mission but we managed to eventually to grab lunch of different street food. While a pricier proposition than your average market, the space has clearly become a popular destination. With its focus on dining over shopping, Chester Market seems to have a unique identity blending indoor food court with independent producers. Recommended to try when not too busy for a more relaxed experience.
Love it here, love the new market, great atmosphere even better food and Seriously!! Honeycomb Old Fashioned from Lockwood and Co. could be my new favourite things in the world
Nice place to grab a bite or a drink whilst visiting Chester. It may not be a quick visit if you're planning on sitting in as part of a group on a busy weekend afternoon though. Seating a little tight, best to browse the food outlets and grab a seat as soon as available, regardless of location. But, a diverse and quality choice of foods to be had, and a great buzz about the place.
We love it here!! We have visited twice in a month and cannot recommend enough! It does get very busy so be patient whilst waiting for a table but other than that - faultless! You receive a buzzer which goes off when your food is ready minimises queues, staff at stalls are very friendly and attentive! Recommend for anyone in the Chester area!
We came here for dinner on our first night of a short stay in Chester. The stalls at the front were shut when we arrived so it looked very quiet from outside but as you walk towards the back, it was a great atmosphere. It’s a street food set up where you order at the stall & you’re given a beeper to collect your food when it’s ready. There’s a good selection of stalls and the service was quick. We had pizza & the amazing mozzarella doughballs plus pulled pork Mac & cheese. The bar in the middle was great and service was really friendly.
If you are local or a visitor to Chester and are looking for something to eat, drink or both, then you won't go wrong with the Market. You'll find a Butchers, Fishmongers, Dog Shop, Zoo shop, Plants, Gifts and more during the day and loads of dining options into the evening. Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch, Dinner, Tea, Guinness, G&T....It's all here. If eating, find a table, then look for something to eat from any of the amazing eateries. Once ordered go and relax and enjoy the view until it's ready to collect. Friday and Saturday nights often have a local band or musician on the stage in the central seating area.
A really great food hall with plenty of choice. After a lot of deliberation I chose to eat at the market cafe which was excellent. There are few market stalls too. The four stars only are for the horrible toilets they are messy and they stink and the non enforcement of their own rules regarding not having dogs all over the furniture.
This place has everything, lots of variety for food and drink as well as a few stalls with interesting items that would be perfect for gifts. Perfect place to come as a couple or with family and friends, you can all have exactly what you fancy all in one place. Weekends are very busy, we waited a good 20 minutes for a table. When ordering food it was actually pretty quick service. Food prices were reasonable, the bar was overpriced however this is expected. Would definitely return
My first visit to this lively new market. It's more a place to eat and drink than shop, but there are some traditional market stalls: a butcher, fishmonger and deli just inside the entrance, two or three nice plant stalls and a few other non-food stalls that include gifts and fancy goods, affordable prescription glasses, phone repairs and doggie accessories. There are still a few empty units, so hopefully there might soon also be a few of the clothing, footwear, homewares and book stalls that are so missing right now. The food offering however is impressive. There's a large court surrounded by street food outlets, and also a few wooden booths if you prefer more privacy. The food looked and smelled really good and there was plenty of variety: Thai, Mexican, Bangladeshi, vegan, seafood, pizzas and more. Plenty that would have tempted me had I not already eaten, though it was so busy I might have had trouble finding a table. There's a bar offering a wide choice of alcoholic drinks. The small Chester in Lego exhibition is also worth a look. Toilets were clean and accessible. Before I left, I visited the Deva Deli, which I thoroughly recommend. Very friendly trader. Bought one of his gourmet Scotch eggs and it was delicious! Will come here again.
