What an interesting cathedral, mosaics, architecture, windows ceilings. We dropped to scan the cathedral however stayed a while and will come back.nIt is free and walked in but gave a donation by the end as you will see so deserving, keeping the place alive.
Chester Cathedral is a place that impresses with its history and architecture. The stunning stained glass windows, beautiful sculptures, and serene atmosphere make a visit to the cathedral an unforgettable experience. It's the perfect place for a moment of reflection and to admire beauty. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Chester!
One of the most beautiful cathedrals I have seen! I normally don't like churches and such, but this place is beautiful and full of history! The entrance is free, but donations are welcome.nnI recommend doing a tour for people who are more interested in the history.nnDon't miss out on the garden, the door is a bit hidden. And the door handle has the be pushed up otherwise it won't open.nnThere is also a café next to the gift shop.nnReally worth to see!
I haven't been on here for years. You don't have to be religious to appreciate this nice bit of old architecture. There was lots of access to many many areas of the building which made it all the better for some good old fashioned exploring.nI liked the donation system instead of charging a fee to enter. It was much more civilised.
A real gem to be treasured! This is a must stop destination in the city of Chester, and for those interested in history, church architecture and stained glass, has to be on your itinerary. Entry is free, but there is the option to tap your card to make an easy donation, and there’s also the opportunity for gift aid.nWe also opted for the guided tour £3 and I highly recommend it. Our guide was Matt, and his knowledge of architecture, history, and the cathedral, along with his enthusiasm, made for an unforgettable experience. We were lucky to be the only people who had booked the tour so we felt quite privileged to have him all to ourselves!nFrom its beginnings as a Benedictine abbey, the cathedral has a rich history and has many interesting and noteworthy features, from the Victorian mosaics to the elaborate rood screen, and quire stalls.nWe also enjoyed a light meal in the cafe which is housed in the former monastery refectory, complete with pulpit from which a monk would preach while the rest of the brothers would eat. We enjoyed the cream of tomato soup and the Welsh rarebit, both of which were very tasty. It is spacious and you might even bag a sunny spot if you’re lucky!nThere is a substantial gift shop with a wide variety of options to purchase - exquisite Christmas decorations we visited at the end of October, religious items, books, food and drink items etc.nIf you love visiting churches, admiring beautiful architecture or just want to do something different, I cannot recommend this enough. I don’t give “top marks” easily, but it is thoroughly deserved!
