Story

Chequer Mead is the only purpose built theatre and arts centre between London and the South coast – comprising the original Victorian school after which it is named. The centre opened in 1996 with the addition of a 320 seat auditorium which now hosts over 250 events each year. With a number of meeting rooms and studios we host a wide range of artistic activities for all ages and interests making Chequer Mead at the core of culture in East Grinstead and the surrounding area.

We went to see a play called Honk. It was performed by the kids from Ardingly College. The location is perfect, in the middle of the town centre of East Grinstead. There is a huge car park outside the theatre which is free after 6pm so even better. The theatre in itself is a bit dated but perfect for small production. Music system was good, seating comfortable and the beverages very reasonably priced. Loved our time there.

I have only been here for dance shows but the foyer is nice and looks lovely however, the changing rooms get very hot and it would be nice if the toilets backstage worked.

A really welcoming and comfortable small theatre, with great views to the stage wherever you sit. A very good restaurant /Cafe and Bar, with relaxed seating area.

Panto v professional, well worth it and funny. Nice cosy little theatre. Great for the children.
