As always, we enjoy very much visiting our local museum, there's always something new to see. This time we actually had enough time to explore the grounds too. My daughter loved the playground, she didn't want to go anywhere else. Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Must visit place. We were pleasantly impressed & well informed about the long history of Chelmsford.Definitely a fine display . The comparison of old & new pictures of the same buildings & how they have preserved those is amazing. It has a beautiful garden & a playground for children as well.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
If you're in town, you have to come see this wonderful musuem. The history of Chelmsford is very intriguing to me and they capture it creatively.
Set in a wonderful location. Cafe attached has a large menu catering to most needs. Lovely lunch and reasonably priced. Also you can book a table in advance which is a big plus! The parks is great considering this is in the middle of Chelmsford. Accessible parking and overspill for busy times. Great facilities for children and the museum is insightful for local history!

Hadn't been since update. Very well done. Staff helpful and friendly. Wheelchair access v good. Café/restaurant excellent with lots of options for veggie and vegan types. Parking limited and need to talk to reception if staying for longer than 2 hours which you will want to during the week. Surrounding Park and gardens well maintained. Play area for kids. Must see the Hive
A fantastic local museum! Tailored well to children with lots to look at and explore in each room, meaning they stay entertained. We used an I-Spy trail which kept our 3-yr-old entertained but there are also harder trails and storytelling sacks that can be borrowed. A great afternoon out!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Visited here with 3 of my boys last week aged 6-10. Really engaging museum, love the clipboards provided with the eye spy sheets. Got them really excited and engaged and meant they had to look carefully at the exhibits. Lots of different activity stations throughout the museum, enabling children to get hands on and creative. We will definitely visit here again. Boys loved it, fantastically well kept grounds and a brilliant park to play and burn some energy off outside afterwards.

We're new to Chelmsford, so it was natural to visit the museum. We didn't have such high expectations, but it certainly surprised us with its excellent displays, helpful staff, and just the depth of history to the area. We had no idea about the extent of Roman inhabitation in Moulsham, the important status of the town during the medieval period through the Tudors and beyond, and then it's significance amid the industrial revolution and the birth of radio and Marconi and the precision manufacturing industry it became famous for. Not only that, but admission is free and we were happy to see so many school groups coming to learn and appreciate all of that. The live beehive is also a real treat.
