I absolutely loved this place, I had been a few times as a child and it has such presence that I remember most of it. The work by the volunteers is admirable, they really know their stuff and they make the experience even better for learning. I would definitely recommend that you do the private art viewing, we had someone called Neil and he even gave a tour of a special room, not open to the general public. The gardens were beautiful and you will find yourself wandering around and time will fly by.
Winston Churchill’s home, studio, and beautiful expansive gardens. This is absolutely worth a visit for people of all ages and abilities and maybe even your furry four legged friends as it has fairly accessible walking paths, play area and house hunt activity for kids, interesting information for the history buffs, and beautiful gardens and walking paths for seeing nature. Recommend getting house tickets in advance to avoid possible disappointment in busy times. Also try to join the studio talk basically a mini one room tour if possible as it gives an interesting insight into his love for painting. There is quite a bit of parking but this can get full on summer weekends. The cafe has both indoor and outdoor seating, and next door is a nice National Trust gift shop and bookshop.
I have been wanting to go here for a long time, finally made it on Good Friday. It didn't disappoint. Stunning grounds and property. Lovely home of Winston Churchill and family. Loved the gallery with alot of Winston's paintings. Would highly recommend.Visited onPublic holidayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
On the National Trust website the place looks deceptively small, but it is actually a big house and the grounds are massive! Perfect for a day out. The dinning room is my favourite! It has an incredible view. Note: when we went, people were given specific times to enter the house. I am not sure whether this is a COVID measure or not. This can be slightly annoying because we arrived at 2pm and our entry time to the house was 3:50pm which is quite a long time to wait if you were just going for the house.
Churchill's old home. Brilliant historical tour of the house, open to National Trust members for free, or otherwise at a decent cost! The house and volunteers are great, but the grounds are also lovely. Great little cafe up the top of the site looking over the Weald. Great woods to explore with the kids decent walk and hills so no buggies I'd say!. Can make a good 3-4 hours of it.
10/10. The National Trust has done a fantastic job of restoring and preserving Chartwell. The Gardens are stunning too. The House is full of so much memorabilia of Sir Winston. I would highly recommend going here. Even with hundreds of people on site it didn’t seem busy. One of the best of its kind in the world.
Beautiful grounds to visit and have a walk in a beautiful day. The Chartwell House is full of history and memories. The art studio is also great to view Churchill's paintings. There is a nice shop and cafe to end your day. I would just say try to buy the tickets in advance.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Absolutely awesome! In most beautiful countryside. High on a hill with stunning views ! Beautifully landscaped with fantastic country walks . Plus the home of our most wonderful Winston and you can learn and see so much about him . And literally feel him there . Friendly and great food . Perfect day out for all the family and I highly recommend. Definitely going back , thanks and regards Michael
What a wonderful place to visit. The place is set up exactly as it was left by Clementine, with their original possessions and you can tell it was a much loved home. There are many of Churchill's original paintings on show around the house as well as many of his uniforms, medals and hats. We even saw the wall that Churchill built himself around the garden, very impressive. The grounds and gardens are beautiful and it is easy to see why he loved it so much.
Returned to Chartwell for the first time in a few years today. It's still a lovely day out, with beautiful grounds, a lake, studio, kitchen garden and the wonderful house to explore. The house feels very much a home, and there are many of Churchill's artifacts on display, such as his various uniforms, and several gifts received from heads of state over his long career. A great place to visit and put yourself in the great man's shoes.
