Beautiful little harbour that has now succomed to the test of time and has been closed. A few old boats are lying about adding to the mystical feeling. The kilns are really good to see, and the info board is a good source of interest
Interesting place with lots of history, worth a visit.
A very simple town... but when you discover this place... it looks incredible!!... I have not seen another like it... it's a shame that it is abandoned to its fate... here would be a fantastic place to have a medieval market ... more videos in my instagram @javisa47
Always a pleasant visit, sitting down at the harbour watching shipping traffic is a great way to spend time.
The Charlestown Limekilns, built of dressed-sandstone are an outstanding feature of Charlestown, they are Grade A listed and are a fantastic surviving example of the Scottish Industrial Revolution. They Limekilns were were built by Charles Bruce, 5th Earl of Elgin in the late 1700’s, where 14 total Limekilns were built which accounted for one third of all like production in Scotland. The Charlestown Limekilns are the largest group of limekilns in Scotland.nnThere is an information panel and plenty space to park, well worth a visit if you like history.
