Only ever seen the Giant from far away, so to get as close as possible to him, was on my bucket list ticked off The village is so lovely, quiet and the walks are well worth it if you can manage it The small car park is in the village and is run on donations. Just a lovely, lovely place with a very special ambience.
Who knew something so phallic could be so interesting?! A good walk up the steep hill from the Kettle Bridge car park to get amazing views. The best views of the Giant itself though are down in the small car park “Cerne Giant Viewpoint”. Baaa.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo wait
Wow.. just wow, best photos from top viewing Carpark.... Followed the stream down in to the village where we explored the Abbey first, then on into the small village... Lovely old world village..Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Came during February half term with the family. We are staying near Glastonbury and visited here on the way back from Lyme Regis: having visited the White Horse, I expected a similar level of information but unfortunately there was very little and not able to get closer. The walk to the village along the crystal clear stream was very nice and the view was pretty good.
Nice picturesque village and countryside walks over the hills. Good parking for the Cerne Giant chalk drawing. However only a sign at top of hill on a barbed wire fence around the cerne giant area that no one can actually go up close to see it. A steep climb and good cardio workout. But disappointing that you can only really view it from the car park. Grass was long so not all the features can be seen apart from the big knob.
Beautiful views of the hillside facing the Cerne Giant. But it is no longer possible to approach the Giant. The best view is from the viewing point.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Surprisingly nice trip, we parked at the viewpoint and ended up walking up the hill and around the giant then into town, visited the abbey & well and other historic sites in town. Finished off with a stop in the pub on the way back. Lovely day all round. Apparently the giant looks better once he's been re-chalked this wasn't the case when we were there.
View best from viewing point. No access to the giant. Can't view up close either. Signs on footpath suggesting this would be helpful Nice local village. Plenty of parking spaces close by with 2 car ParksVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Lovely walk - scenery is stunning, though we were lucky in having an absolutely perfect day to enjoy it. Bear in mind that the hill is VERY steep although not long and would be slippery in the chalk on a wet day. Wear proper shoes and don’t take aged relatives. Also bear in mind that you can’t really see the giant at all when you are on the hill.
The Cerne giant Hill figure is just north of the village. The chalk cut figure is 55 meters high, the club in its right hand is 36 and a half meters long. The figure is thought to represent Hercules and it may date from the Second Century AD. When the Roman emperor Commodus Revived worship of this god. It is a spectacular site on the dorset hillside, it looks so Sharp and clear as it is still scoured every seven years. There is parking at the bottom of the hill.
