Took 20 year 8s and 9s last week. The stempod was so much fun for all of us even the teachers. Booked a 'careers in health and science' workshop after and the presenter was so high energy and had great expertise, getting the girls to think about different work experiences, having the chance to speak to a scientist about her work and a dentistry student. Really worthwhile day out.
Our home education group visited, and we had nothing but praise to say about our visit. From the organisation of our visit to the day itself! The STEM POD and workshop was amazing, and the staff was so friendly, helpful, professional, and knowledgeable. A truly magnificent day, and we look forward to returning soon.
Centre of the Cell was an excellent venue for our school trip last week. We took our Year 5 & Year 6 children and the day linked perfectly to their learning on the human body. We chose the Pod Experience and 'Snot, Sick & Scab' workshop! The whole day was immersive and included lots of practical activities for the boys to get involved with. The staff were extremely knowledgeable and it was so well organised. Definitely worth a visit!
As I am QMer, I definitely have to brag about the Centre of the Cell which is located at QMUL. It is the first science education centre in the world to be located within working biomedical research laboratories.
It was a great experience!! My 9 year old really enjoyed it. Members of staff are amazing with engaging children in activities and extremely knowledgeable. Thank you again!
I visited here twice in the school summer holidays for a science lecture for kids and for a trip to the Pod that is the centre of the cell. It's a science learning centre but is also a working laboratory which helps kids see that science is a real job and not just something abstract from school. The Pod is an amazing learning centre with lots of interactives to help you see the benefits of science in our lives. It's a fun and inspiring place and I'm looking forward to returning in the next school holiday.
Sadly, given the enormous importance of science to this country and to the human race in general, this centre is really rather dull. The whole thing looks like it was conceived before the age of the mobile and the omnipresent internet though in fact it went public in 2009 - far too much reliance on gimmicky surrounds that look like a cell, and on videos which are no longer as compelling to the young as they used to be… I had 25 students from 15 to 19 years old, and they were all as disappointed as I was. Great idea to encourage the young to science, but you need great practice too, and this was a naive attempt to catch the attention of young and old alike.
So informative & So much fun The Kids absolutely loved it There's a cafe on site with a hygiene rating of 5 that doesn't rip you off very reasonable The medical students run the tour and they are amazing with the children. Very impressed and will definitely go again
Nice place to visit with your children. Very informative Especially the pod is a very interesting area we're children can learn through playing games.
This is like the best place on Earth.
