I see from the above review that it is somewhat outdated. There is no longer a tridentine mass on Sunday afternoons and a whole new sound system, installed at considerable expense which works very well considering reverb problems due to the church's oratorial design. Mass times have also changed there are now two masses on Sunday at 9am and 11am but no 6pm mass. There is a 'Vigil Mass' on Saturday 6pm. The church has been redecorated and the hall which is connected to the church now has finally been built as Fr Philip wished, complete with fitted kitchen and conveniences for both genders plus the disabled. The church is still biased towards families and it can still be hard for single people or the young to readily feel at home there but outreach has never been a strong point in the Roman Catholic Church and it is likely that younger generations leave and either go to anglican or protestant churches or drift away.

St Philip Neri is Mansfield's Roman Catholic church and is built and beautifully decorated after the italianate oratory style. Mass is celebrated twice on Sunday [plus a Mass in the tridentine rite at 3.00pm] and at 12.10 on weekdays and the preaching is of a high standard but, alas, despite the church being wired up with microphones and speakers the reverberation is such that the sermon cannot be easily heard - except by the hard of hearing using the loop system. If it were not for this great fault this would be a four star church. Much attention is paid to the family and family life at St Philips at some cost to the single worshipper who may easily come to the conclusion that he or she doesn't matter. There is very little outreach as is common with Roman Catholic churches. However the congregation is quite warm and welcoming at the coffee served after Mass. Yet again there seems to be very little by way of service or socialising that the new church member, if single, can get involved in.
