Beautiful place. It costs money to see the inside of the castle but you can see a lot for free too. For the most part, it's kid friendly. We spent about an hour there. There was areas closed off for construction though so that was a let down.
We love this castle, but as it's under essential renovation there are some limits to what you can see and experience. I'm looking forward to seeing the great all when it's finished and all the furniture has been replaced in the rooms. The entry price gets you access to Castle Coch, which I highly recommend as a great experience. The coffee and cheese chilly scones there were the best I think I've ever had.
Walk around the castle a lot as when the grounds are open you can walk around the exterior of the castle without having to pay the extortionate entry fee. Take duck food to feed the many geese, swans, pigeons and ducks that live in the extensive moat. You'll also see Kingfishers around the moat and occasional Egret. Caerphilly itself has plenty of places to eat and drink and is a pretty vibrant little town to spend some time in.nnThe castle is very impressive, second largest in the UK I believe. Makes for some good photo opportunities.
Great visit to a historic monument, being the UK's second largest castle. Obviously not in as great shape as some others, but there's plenty of history to this structure!nVery satisfied, and very interesting!
Really enjoyed it, well preserved castle, lots of nice touches like the dragons and the statue. A lot of renovation work going on, however large amounts of the castle are still open. Really well done as there are lots of places to look through so A. you can have a nose at what is going on and B. so that you can still see other parts of the castle and views. No toilets or cafe currently.
