Must be one of the best English Heritage places to visit. Good info boards. A great cafe. Great welcoming staff and volunteers. A great morning visit with the family. Well recommended. Car parking is good. One can get one car park ticket at reception.
Excellent example of an old castle. Loved the donkeys. Went in the rain and still had a good time. Make sure you have good shoes. Uneven stones and narrow stairs are all over. Can't beat the views.
Well managed English Heritage property. Helpful staff. Really cool to see the donkeys working the waterwheel 2 min demonstration. Lots to look at. Amazing views from the walls. Nice cafe with plenty of outside tables. Old museum interesting if the Charles I relics are a bit odd!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
The castle is really worth a visit and please watch the film that will tell you about the history of the castle before you begin to explore. Don't forget the museum or to visit the donkeys. People with mobility issues might struggle to reach the very top of the castle because the stairs are steep. The views from the ramparts are really worth the effort.
We found the story of Carisbrook really interesting and was well presented by English Heritage and appealed to both children and adults. The selection in the cafe was reasonable and they made fresh sandwiches for my son who is allergic to dairy, and we're very conscious of a host of allergies. Would definitely recommend as the castle has been really well preserved and you are able to walk around much of the perimeter wall with some amazing views.
Well worth a visit if you find yourself in the Isle of Wight. There is a small Donkey Sanctuary inside the grounds. Small chapel and walled garden as well as remnants of the original castle. You can walk along the old castle walls, as well as walk around the outside perimeter.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
This is a very worthy castle to go because you can get up to the keep wall for a spectacular view if the Isle of Wight. This castle has connections to royal history. You get immersive experience of the history as you read through the signs and exhibits.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
This castle has plenty to see. Although inside the castle walls, a lot of the original rooms are demolished, the church, although it had been rebuilt within the last 100 years, is well preserved. The museum has some interesting artefacts and information. You can walk the entire perimeter of the church walls too, the views from certain points on the walk are amazing. There is a donkey stable and gardens round the back and also a small cafe. Well worth a visit
Day trip stop over. Enjoyed the walk around the castle ruins and reading up the history of this place. Toilets available and cafe with lots of places/spaces to eat and relax.Visited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedNo
A really interesting visit. The donkey explanation with the well was fantastic. The lady doing the ralk was enthusiastic, knew her history and her passion for the donkeys welfare was apparent throughout. A lovely day out with the family.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
