Nicely placed in the heart of Cardiff right beside the train station less than 5 minutes to Cardiff castle,station is clean and has plenty of staff to assist if you need it,timetables show bus and train journeys.Also provides a water bottle filling station.nHowever what I like best about the bus station are the free toilets,each toilet is self-contained with toilet and sink, a traveller can fully freshen up without being disturbed.there is plenty of space also to put down your backpack or luggage.
Hard to believe this is the coach station of the country's capital city.nnIt's in an open park. You have a little place to cover from rain but, as you can see, very limited seating ~15 seats.nnThere ARE bathrooms behind the information office.nnThere's no visible real-time information. So you must know your things... Or go to the information office if it's open.nnReally can't imagine how would you make it in winter, since I'm here in October really early in the morning and I'm freezing. There's no place to even buy a coffee there's a vending machine in the office, so I can only put on a coat and pray.nnAgain, this is the coach station of the country's capital city...
It was a unique experience at Cardiff coach station, it is an open coach station. Inside Sophie gardens.The booking station is around 100-250 yards away from the place where the coaches arrive. It is a great arrangement considering the amount of space available for the coaches. The taxi stand is quite adjacent to the coach station. It was sunny day so it was great, I wonder in winters or rainy days how it works. There was a small shelter available but currently may be not in use. Overall a decent place considering the space constraints. I could not venture into the booking area may be that place could have washrooms available, however I could not locate them as I didn't require them this time around.
Sophia Gardens is the most dangerous, poorly lit and understaffed coach station I have been to in the UK or Europe and I have been to many poor countries in Eastern Europe.nThere is no shelter in the evening or if it rains apart from a 'bus shelter'. It is unsafe for anyone, let alone arriving late on a dark night. For a capital city, Cardiff is a disgrace in so many ways and what does it take for the Council to actually do something? A murder? Maybe then they will sit in the Senedd for another year and say 'lessons will be learned'.
A very underdeveloped bus station, despite being the main bus terminal of the capital city.nnThere’s not much of an infrastructure there barring a glass shed with limited seating, much like any other bus stops around.nnThere’s no other amenities too around. Lacks a food court, toilet and many other facilities which we might expect in an establishment of its kind.nnThe location - not very far from the city centre and castle is an advantage. It’s situated in the middle of Sophia gardens, very close to bute park - which is a calm location. There’s enough space for parking around the coach station to drop/ pickup passengers. Given the place is so calm, there’s no need to rush while parking, which is another advantage.nnThe place is also well maintained and neat every time. The lack of infrastructure can also work as a blessing in disguise, as not much walking is involved while navigating from one platform to the other.nnApart from that, I don’t find anything worth mentioning about this place.nn maintenancen infrastructure & amenitiesn safetyn accessibility
