Italian food done well! Great cocktails and wine recommendations, with amazing food to accompany! Burratina was a fresh starter, showcasing the delicate cheese, as was the gnocchi with the mussels being some of the most plump and sweetest I have had in London. The guinea fowl main and beef ragu were both full of flavour and hearty pairing great with the Cabernet Sauvignon. The amaretto tiramisu to finish was perfect with distinct textures on each layer. Went down well with port and Amaro! To top all this off, the wait staff could not be more helpful and attentive with their honest friendliness!
Always love paying this restaurant a visit, don’t live local but when in the area I make sure this is where I eat!! Max and the staff always very friendly. 5 stars.
I have been there a few weeks a go for the first time, the food is very good in terms of quality and availability, and the care that the owner i guess so pay to each costumer is considerable, . I felt to be back in Italy for the atmosphere and the care offered . It can be considered a bit priced but half of the dishes are based on fish/sea food.
Great little find. Went for a meal before a concert fantastic staff, great food, lovely setting and reasonably priced. First class couldn’t ask for any better
Very pleasant and helpful staff, though somewhat run off their feet, they more than fulfilled expectations. The interior is very cool, calm and modernistic with fairly small and, in our case, wobbly tables. It could easily have been an Italian restaurant in York or Harrogate. The wine list was wide enough and fairly priced; the bottle of Trebbiano was much appreciated. In terms of the menu, for a vegetarian and pescatarian, the choices were limited. The “special” dishes did not add to our options. When we ordered, pasta offered the best choices. The starter of ravioli was delicately constructed, and subtly flavoured, but the ravioli themselves were minimally filled, and the contents therefore close to unrecognisable. The burritina with red pepper sauce was a small chilled burrata with a red sauce described by my wife as like cold tomato ketchup! For a main vegetarian course - and the only one thus listed separately on the menu - the “classic aubergine parmigiana” with rocket sounded an attractive order. It arrived minimally: unaccompanied and about the size of four small matchboxes, with one wilting leaf of rocket laid memorably across one corner. Its flavours were interesting, but its petite substance had disappeared before the palate could seriously engage with it. The pappardelle with porcini mushrooms was contrastingly extremely generous and very filling. We did share our surprise at the disparity of the main courses with the waiters, but were surprised to receive the riposte that “the chef has stated that the aubergine was an appropriate 250 grams”. Is this the vegetarian’s steak-comparison revelation moment? Overall, expensive - though, as my wife remarked, there was a pleasing concept behind it all. Regrettably, one doesn’t dine on a concept……
A wonderful restaurant, my favourite dish is the pan-fried calves liver with butter and sage. The selection of wines are excellent and the panacotta is wonderful. We really enjoy our visits to Canonbury Kitchen and like on so many occasions and Max and the staff have always made us feel comfortable and never let us down, especially on the food! Thank you.
Quaint, rustic vibes. Food is delicious. Start with some calamari or black ink ravioli, move on to a main course of guinea fowl breast or spaghetti with tiger prawns. Perfect place for a date or special occasion celebration. Owners are super nice and seem to know everyone who comes through the doors.
Far down upper street away from the bustle of the bars full of people is The Canonbury Kitchen not the most likely selection as it's barely noticeable from the main road. It is well priced with has become my favourite in the area. The food is fantastic. from a lovely selection of pastas including homemade ravioli to a succulent sea bass and great honey glazed guinea fowl. The staff are not just good at their job, they are pleasant, kind and have a good sense of humour. All of this is a bonus to the well designed menu. Very tasty, it's worth going with a few people and getting as many dishes as you can to share. Everything on the menu is worth a taste.
Max and the team at Canonbury Kitchen provide an authentic and absolutely delicious Italian dining experience. The staff are incredibly warm and personable. You don't feel as though you're being rushed in and out, and can truly enjoy your meal. Highly recommend the housemade pasta and the baked aubergine or steak. They also have tasty rotating specials which are always worth a try. Make sure you leave room for the chocolate mousse cake! Max has also curated a brilliant wine list with the Puglia Primitivo being a favourite of ours. We've been to Max's for both date night and large family meals and always left very happy and actively planning our return.
Average meal at best. Very overpriced for the food. £15 for a piece of grilled swordfish and no sides. Nothing. It didn't even come with a little salad. No kids menu. And the wait staff were OK. The owner was quite rude and unkind to my children. Asking them to be quiet because of complaints. They weren't being quiet but were laughing and not running around. They did scream once when the toilet lights failed and no staff helped. My husband had to go down and help them! And still no help. It was only 7:45pm so I feel an ok time for kids to be in a restaurant. £9.50 for a starter pasta that didn't feed my kids. We travel to Italy a lot and Sicily and love the Italian trattoria way! Good food served with love. This is not what this place represents. Overpriced and unkind and honestly not that good.
