Go prepared. Midge spray/net. Walking boots. Drink. And clothes for all weather. After you've done that you'll find some amazing views after enjoying the steep walk up. From the cairngorm Cafe the walk goes up the "windy ridge". There is a rocky path all the way so no need for maps or GPS really. All the way to the top isn't far but it is steep walk. Near the top there is a ski station then take the walk straight up to the top. Coming down is easier but think of your knees! We had clear weather then cloud above then rain so plan for it all. If there is wind it will come in quick but pass too.
Incredible part of the Country the views are just breathtaking. We are a Family of five with a Little dog and we ended up visiting the mountain three days in a row With great adventures had each time. A must go place for all.
Nice walk through the Cairngorms. The base is nice, but unfortunately the Funicular is currently out of action, would’ve been fun to go on. The car park is £3, which is pretty steep, so most people, including us, parked on the street, like a minutes walk away from the buildings. Also, the shop is small and feels really quite dingy, but has a great video of them making the base. Would definitely recommend going.
Great place to take in the views, watch the skiers and sample the lovely food in the cafe. We walked up to mid station which was not too hard a walk. All the staff were very friendly and happy to chat about the funicular back in working order again
Amazing place with stunning views! Worth a visit for skiers and walkers alike. There's a free bus that takes you from the car park to the base station, from which you can take a paid funicular to the mountain top, where there's a restaurant with good views and tasty food. If you're a skier, you can rent equipment at the base station, although if you want to take ski classes, be sure to book online in advance with one of the many ski schools in Aviemore or Coylumbridge. Nevertheless, if you just want to see snow and goof around, it's still a great experience, as the area around the restaurant is open. Finally, be sure to check the weather forecast in advance to be sure you get snow, as that's not always the case.
Had a wonderful hike. Saw a golden eagle while up there, my first time seeing one in the wild, so stunning. What an incredible place. Will absolutely be back for a longer hike next time.
A beautiful area with splendid views of the entire region. There are some nice walks to do around the mountain. There is also a slide attraction for kids and adults that will put a smile on their face and exhaust them. The visitor center in the car park has also a shop with plenty of hiking / skiing gear ans resonable prices. The cafe next to it will offer multiple options for all tastes including, vegans and vegetarians. Parking is 3 pounds but you can psrk outside the gate and save that money.
Great place for winter climbing. Tons of craigs and gullies with options for ungraded up to grade 7 ice/snow climbs and everything in between. Be careful the winds can be upwards of 100mph and visibility can drop quickly.
Really easy and straightforward hill. Path to the top. Take the tourist route and you'll be up and down in well under 3 hours. Went up on a snowy day where the visibility was very poor at the top, so did not make the journey to Ben Macdui as it was too dangerous without maps/compasses.
A magical place! Full of beautiful scenery and wildlife. I will never forget my time spent up in the wilderness and all what I have seen and experienced.
