Me, my wife & daughter have been coming here every 2 or 3 Saturday mornings for breakfast since finding out about it around 4 months ago.nIt was the first place I have given 10/10 on 4 or 5 occasions.nI had a large breakfast & pot of tea instead of the usual mocha as it's getting less chocolatey with every visit!nmy wife had poached eggs on toast & hot chocolate, my daughter had the pancake stack, maple syrup, bacon & yep you guessed...a coke!!nWe were last there 2 weeks ago & tbh not sure if I will go back!nMy large breakfast had massively undercooked eggs slime all over the place toast was not even close to toasted, barely hot bread & tea had one very week teabag, couldn't get any colour out of it.nPoached eggs were atrocious, my wife sent it back & didn't want anything else as she felt sick, both completely raw inside & filled with slime & the toast was slightly hotter than mine.nDaughter was happy with the pancakes though nThe young lady asked if my wife would like anything else, she replied no thanks.nNo apologies & nothing was mentioned apart from a yes when I asked if the poached eggs were removed from my bill.nIt seems that the easiest thing to cook eggs & not to mention the healthiest item is always the hardest thing for cafes to get right & the amount of places I have avoided due to this continues to grow.nI'm hoping this was a one off as the eggs have been perfect every other time.nI may give it another shot in the future & will update this review.
Café 21 has got a wide menu of various choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is a beautiful place with good service and relaxed atmosphere.nnThere are also options for vegetarian and vegan. Prices are ok.nnVegetarian eggs Benedict were lush. The portobello mushrooms were finely cooked and the poached eggs were cooked to perfection.
My partner and I ate here for the first time today. Had heard good things about this place and it was all true. I had the Cafe 21 Benedict and it was so friggin good!! That hollandaise sauce! nSO had the small breakfast but it’s actually a decent size! You get plenty on the plate. Our coffees were delicious, lovely velvet texture, milk warmed to the right temperature - I’ve been a barista so I can be particular about my coffee but this was one perfect. We bought some bakes to have at home later but we’ve eaten them already. Just too yummy! We’ll definitely be back to try more of the menu.nAlso, Thank you for great service. It was fairly busy since it was lunchtime but all servers were smiley and friendly.
Great wee cafe at the local train station , very clean and bright , staff were friendly and chatty and the food was excellent , we went for the eggs benedict and the mac and cheese with a hot chocolate and flat white , all really good , well cooked and served in Cafe21 labelled cups which were cute
Will preface this by saying the food is very nice; however rather let down by the surly, unwelcoming attitudes of some staff members. It was reasonably busy 7-8 covers on a Sunday brunch, we waited to be seated and when we were sat the waitress said 'I'll give you a couple of minutes'. 15 minutes later a different waitress blonde/grey hair and glasses came to take our order. However, instead of saying 'Hello, how are you? What would you like' she just stood there, silent, note-pad in hand, like it was a major inconvenience. We ordered, to which she curtly replied 'it's a 35 minute wait for food'. Ok, fair enough, but why not say something along the lines of 'Just to let you know we're quite busy, would you be happy to wait x amount of time?' before the customer's place their order. When the food came out, it was not delivered with any politeness. All-in-all we were there over an hour and half, which is a bit too long for a couple of poached egg dishes. Maybe we just attended on a day where the staff were feeling frazzled. There's so much to improve on here in terms of service.
