When ever I have a meeting i the area, i come here. the food and the drinks are reliable and consistent. The service is hit and miss, most times its good but sometimes it lacks any sort of attention. The last time I was there in the restaurant seated, I waited for 20 minutes to have my order taken they weren't busy, I think I was being ignored, NOT good This said it is a nice place with out side seating and a good vista.
I was here with my boyfriend and he had a lovely lunch. The food was really nice and tasty. The waiter was very polite and tried to help us when, we where unsure what kind of dessert we should order. He brought us a book from the kitchen to show us the desserts. The service was really good-no complaints at all. It is true that the service was a bit slow it took them about 30 minutes to bring us our food, but in my opinion it is normal when you are in a restaurant. You have to wait for your food to be cooked of course, you are not the only one there - and this is an important fact to remember to other customer. You don't have to be rude to the waiting staff just because you have a bad day. People just complain about everything nowadays.
Love this particular cafe rouge! Staff are always lovely and the food is always fab. We had the sharing platter. Nice but could do with a little bit more choice. Mains and desert lovely and the fixed menu of steak and chips medium rare cooked to perfection.
Great food and a very nice place It didn't start off to good. There was hardly any customers in so we were told to go and sit anywhere we liked. On doing so nobody waited on us for 5 minutes so i went and got my own menu, a waiter then come over and said it was table service with a bit of attitude in his voice, so i said if it was table service i wouldn't of had to get my own menu. From then on service got better.
If you have plenty of time and do not mind waiting to be served this will be a blast for you! If however you would like a fast service with hot food on the table, then you will want to give this place a miss. Everytime we have used this restaurant it has been the same notice from the staff... I mean it is like they do not want you to eat in the restaurant! Now honestly if you don't like working in the place then leave, do not take it out on your customers. We have been twice and to be honest with you all, it is WAY OVER PRICED for what you get. Honestly you might as well go to harvester and get the same thing cheaper! And to top it off harvester gives you a third off the bill during week days before five! If you really want to eat in lakeside I would recommend that you give this place a miss.
Wonderful restaurant. Take no notice of the bad reviews. Lovely food, authentic French food. Thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the wine is to die for, ended up taking a bottle home. Would reccoment this restaurant for both a romantic meal and casual dining. Will come here again. One of my favourites down boardwalk. 10/10 for cafe rouge at lakeside.
Whilst the service was polite, prompt and courteous, the standard of the food was definitely below par. The moules and cod were both unavailable which was a disappointment. 3 Rib-eye steaks were therefore ordered for adults and 2 sirloin for boys. All 3 rib eye cuts were at least 20% fat and gristle each and were more akin in texture to the sirloins. Definitely not worth the £21 each we paid for them. Unless the quality of menu improves, we won't be returning.
I was really disappointed with my solo midweek lunch time visit here as service was shockingly slow. I didn't get my first main course until half an hour after I had walked in. I could have accepted this if it at least came with an apology, or preferably an explanation whilst ordering. It also didn't help that after waiting too long my mussels were then overcooked, and had obviously been handled very roughly as nearly one in three shells were broken - some into very small pieces which could easily have gotten stuck in my throat if I wasn't careful. My wine was too warm for my liking, and at every stage of the meal I was kept waiting far too long and has definitely put me off returning.
This place has a great review of the lake at Lakeside which on a sunny day on the boardwalk gives a great atmosphere for a relaxing dinner. Our waiter was very friendly attentive and ready to help all you would expect from good customer service. We ordered steak and chips the beef bourguignon it's arrived quickly well served and although I had to send a steak back to be cooked a bit more the food here was very good. We even used our Tesco vouchers this time which meant it proved to be cheap as chips. I've been to many restaurants in this chain but just with the customer service along with the location of the restaurant I think this has to be the best. Great place to relax after a hard day shopping at lakeside or just a drop into If You Live Locally.
Nice food, however... not enough staff, felt so sorry for the 1 waitress that had to serve a 3/4 full restaurant alone while the manager hides in the back doing God only knows! It's not on cafe rouge! You are taking advantage of your staff and most certainly not keeping your customers looked after! Sort it out!
