I had a 50% food voucher so I decided to try cafe rouge for the first time. Both French, me and my friend wanted to have a nice meal from our country. The service was quick but not great. The girl opened a bottle of wine and the cork broke. She didn’t replace the bottle and kept trying to open it .. leaving some pieces in the wine. She didn’t seem to care. The food was disappointing, I had a Boeuf Bourguignon and my friend chicken. It was not really tasty. We asked bread that they charged us.. and what a shame to find a basket of 4 slices of industrial frozen bread which didn’t reflect what bread you can find in a French restaurant. The little pieces of bread served with the dishes were nice though, so I don’t understand when we pay extra, we didn’t get the same bread. The desserts were nice but nothing amazing. It was expansive but we were happy to have this voucher so we didn’t have to pay the full price for this.
We went there for lunch with our tour group of 29 people. It took a while for the food to come out. The place was impressive. We had Camembert with Cranberry Sauce for entré followed by Toasted Sandwich Sauteed Mushroom with melted cheese on top and finished with Crème Brûlée. The food were presented well and the taste was okay. It just the menu choice wasn't quite right at that time.
This is one of the bigger branches. It's nicely decorated and does have that Parisian chic essence. Whilst not very busy, the service was a little slow, but the waiter looking after my girls and I was very attentive, nice and helpful as were other members of staff. Portion sizes were decent, we did not leave hungry. I feasted on moules mariniere not the best I have eaten, there was very little of the base, but perhaps I am comparing to having this in France. My eldest ordered a steak baguette whilst my younger two had chicken goujons. A little disappointed with a starter from the kids menu - baguette and crudités. This was just two slices of tomatoes and carrots, I think it could have been more appetising. My other daughter ordered garlic bread which she enjoyed, also from the kids menu. Unfortunately the condiments with the steak did not appeal to my eldest who ended up eating just the steak and the rest of my moules. We now know better for next time. The WC facilities are on the lower ground floor and is kept clean. Prices can be a little steep. This meal was shared for Mother's Day which promised a glass of Prosecco when booking, this did not appear. I will go back to Café Rouge, but perhaps my local branch. I would appreciate a thumbs up if you found this review helpful. Thank you.
Terrible. Had a chicken burger and although the piece of chicken was a surprising size for the patty buns- it was stone cold. It was, however, complemented by a 1/8th teaspoon of mayonnaise and sliver of iceberg lettuce. Yum. Waited 45 minutes to get the attention of a waitress for the bill, then another 30 minutes for them to come back with the card machine.
Prompt service & requests accommodated with ease. Food was swell & the atmosphere genial. Breaded Whitebait as a starter was scrumptious, as is the Black Angus Burger; a filling main dish with a satisfying portion of Frites. A must try is the Crème Brûlée for dessert, delightfully accompanied by a Almond tuile it is perfectly sweetened with the caramelisation topping.
Awful food and service. My bf's beetroot tart starter was OK but my pate was fridge cold and crumbly! The steaks we had were bland and chewy, the accompanying sauces tasted like they were from a packet. We asked to substitute for sweet potato fries and they forgot, so we had to ask for it again. The tenderstem broccoli side dish tasted of fish! So we had that changed and it wasn't fishy but was still bland AF. The service was also lacklustre and rather slow - always struggled to get their attention even though the place only had a few tables with people.
Been here a couple of times now and try our best to avoid the theatre crowds as they do tend to slow down the service as it get extremely busy at certain times. The starters were nice although the camembert was overly heated to almost a cheese sauce which was a shame, but the pigs in blankets could have done with more time cooking!! The fish and chips were fresh and tasty and as I like it, not dripping in oil! The burger was ok, the steak very tough, and the waiter admitted that this had been a poor section of meat! It was returned and replaced with a different cut. A shame that we could not eat together because of this, a pity really because usually their food is really good and dependable. I know it's a chain but CR never seem to feel like part of a conglomerate. A bit more care in the kitchen would make all the difference.
Had breakfast before at a Cafe Rouge when in London. Very good value for money and nicely cooked. Would have been nice to have Champagne with it but we had shopping to do!!! We were at one near Covent Garden and it was surprisingly quiet.
Great experience! Amazing service and tasty burgers : thank you for our waiter Attila
The food was nice, somehow different for me. I tried Mussel. However, honestly customer service was terrible. Waitresses were not friendly. I would not go there again. Thanks
