Lovely little beach front café. Good coffee and tea, and we really liked their pick-and-mix style breakfast menu. None of this "can I change my tomato for..." nonsense, we just ordered what we wanted and it was all lovely! It was quick service and they were friendly. Everything felt clean. The decor was nice. I'd really recommend!
It was our first time at Cafe Riva for breakfast on Ester Monday, we arrived just after it was opened. There was no long waiting. We had a table outside with a beautiful sea view. The food was really good and service was nice too. I will come back
Just a beautiful place to come to on the Cliff's at Southbourne. Great prices, super service, great value. Buy a tea, coffee, something stronger or a full meal and sit outside on the terrace overlooking the bay with breathtaking sea views. Wonderful!
They have a great DJ on a Saturday afternoon. It's my favourite thing to do. Such a sense of community. All ages from 2 yrs to 92yrs! Dancing in the sunshine looking at the sea. Doesn't get much better than that!! The pizza van is lush too.
Nice view, service is OK. Good beer. Definitely a place for a 5pm drink if you are in the area.
We stopped for a toasted cheese and salad brioche with a lager. The food was good. There are some tables for inside dining but most are outside on their patio and decking areas. It gets busy so you may have to queue to order food and drinks. Once food is ordered and ready the staff serve it at your table. The main cafe stops serving food at 4pm, however, they then open a pizza hut outside at 5pm. Not sure what time that closes though. Great location and brilliant for children as the Cafe is surrounded by a large grassy area of the cliff top and not far from the beach. Outside dining area is also dog friendly. Wheelchair accessibility: Parking on Boscombe Overcliff and from there you take a sloping pavement straight to the first seating area which is on the same level.
Okay, so here's the thing. This place has amazing gluten free cakes, dog ice cream and it overlooks the beach. Problem... When I brought the cake, I had my dog with me who was happily tucking into his ice cream, coconut flavor, and he loved it! But another dog was wondering round interested in the ice cream, I took my eyes off my plate for a few seconds and the wind caught the plate and it was goodbye cake. £3 I paid and believe me, it was lovely, but sadly other than a few bites, the birds got it all. Sadly disheartened, I left. I get not wanting crockery outside, but it's still part of the cafe if your on their premises and really, having something so lightweight for take aways even when your eating outside is not great. On the cliff top it's windy even on gentler days. Please review and save others like me from losing your lovely food.
I have been here for tea and cake a number of times with a friend, and enjoyed tea and cake, sea views and the sound of the sea. Not this time. There is a new beer cabin. A few minutes after we sat down, it began pumping out loud music. This got turned up every few minutes. We eventually moved away as it became too loud for enjoyment, but this meant sitting in the full midday sun. Not a good customer experience, and if this is a permanent feature, we will not be back
Very bland, warm coffee. Tight spaces to sit inside. Long wait for weekend food ordered. Downside is the nanny/parent brigade who let kids play inside and outside seating area - too lazy to take them to playground; next to the cafe. Spoils cafe atmosphere.
Unfortunately this place was underwhelming since previous visits. We went for lunch and it was quite busy. I checked the menu and asked for a fish finger sandwich and was told sorry, no fish. So I asked for a prawn cocktail baguette and was told rather testily sorry, no fish. Prawns are seafood not fish, but never mind I didn’t point it out. So I asked for a chicken tikka baguette and was told sorry, no chicken tikka! So I asked can you do a tuna Mayo sandwich and yes they could do that - even though it is fish! So I had a tuna Mayo sandwich which was 2 slices of supermarket wholemeal bread with tuna Mayo between them. A tiny bit of salad on the side. No crisps or fresh bread or imaginative garnish. For £5. The views remain fantastic, but unfortunately the food and service let them down this time. We probably won’t be returning.
