First class French restaurant in the West end of Dundee. The starters were sublime, some of the best moules and King prawns I've had. The main course was excellent as well. One of the best restaurants Dundee has to offer.
Decided to go for lunch with the family consisting of six adults and one 7 month old. Arrived and seated, staff super friendly, even saying hello to the youngest member of the party, so pay no attention to one of the other reviews. The setting is lovely and cosy. The food was delicious, I always find a croque monsieur strange as it is just cheese on toast, by it was so good, not a bad word about the food by anyone. The cream of red pepper soup was something to behold as well! Honestly, would go again in a heartbeat if anyone asks!
Exceeded expectations, we were looking forward to this for a long time! Had a wonderful meal last night with all the family gathered to celebrate graduation from Dundee Uni, and the team at Cafe Montmartre looked after is brilliantly and provided an amazing spread that was definitely world class food... delicious in every detail and morsel. We had the full range, from escargot to duck, lamb and salmon, with the full compliment of desserts as well. Fantastic, thank you.
Probably the nicest restaurant in the Dundee area. We reserved for a large party of 18 and they were extremely accommodating. Everybody including myself in our party were happy with their food from starter to main. Nice selection of wines and beer as well. The menu is eclectic with lots if options from vegetarian to gamey meets like lamb. Not inexpensive, but worth it if you are in the mood for a fancy meal.
Nice restaurant, good atmosphere. We had a lovely 2 course meal and weren't rushed. The food was of excellent quality and tasted delicious. It was quite rich and we could never have managed 3 courses. It was a little more expensive.
This restaurant is bijou with a very Friendly atmosphere and the owners make you feel very welcome. The food was excellent with guinea fowl and pork on the menu, a big choice and plenty of it. I would definitely go back.
Food was great. Well presented and decent portions. Staff friendly and prompt. Atmosphere good and price not too expensive. Will definitely be going again. The rabbit is top notch.
I had forgotten how good French cuisine could be. This café / restaurant came recommended by a local cabbie – and we all know that taxi drivers are never wrong. I had a superb lunch – and the house red is a lasting memory.
This night was fabulous. I was waiting for the inauguration of the restaurant and booked a table as soon as possible, trust me that it is worth it! The reception is done with a smile. The room is nice and looks like a piece of France : wine, French personalities, French music and the Eiffel Tower will put you in the mood. I started with a glass of Champagne and a "Salade de Chèvre Fondue aux Noix". It was like being back home in France with my mother preparing one of her best starters. The main dishes followed with a perfect timing. I ordered some "Moules Marinières à l'Armoricaine" that I savored. The plate was generous and well presented. I did not order any dessert but someone at my table ordered the "Tarte du Jour" that was looking delicious. To conclude, Cafe Montmartre is a nice place that I recommand to anyone who wants some good French food. Thanks to the Chef and the waiters.
Mortified, embarrassed and upset. After 3 years of following Cafe Montmartre around, Cupar and now Dundee, not a customer in the Broughty Ferry days, but having always loved their food, I recommended so many friends/family & business associates to try it out, I was left speechless. I loved this place, however I always had a terrible underlying, gut feeling around the Owner & his, somehow passive aggressive, rude and irritated at his own success, kinda attitude. We were always bothering him with our bookings, never took the time to try & remember the clients name if a regular, well certainly not ours. Something was not quite right there. As the lunches & dinners went on, he was always making negative & inappropriate rude remarks, that didn't sit quite right with me, but gave him the benefit of the doubt. The food was always nice & his wife the chef, was lovely & amazing as with waiters. He however, was becoming harder & harder to digest, as the visits went on.I was pregnant & the inappropriate comments went on.My son was born & since then started to make new remarks if, the baby made any!! noise whatsoever & would raise his eyebrow over his glasses.I am a mother & you worry yourself sick to not upset, people around you as it is, however, I have a child, that's life, it is what it is, they do gaga & goo goo & scream occasionally, they are not dogs, who are treated better at times.I did not appreciate this uncomfortable situation, & whilst discussing it with my husband & trying to keep him calm, I kept giving him chance after chance. Despite the fact that a proper high chair, is not provided & in Cupar a proper changing area did not exist, but balancing your child on a make shift ledge they could roll off, & seriously hurt themselves, seemed to make me think he didnt want to encourage kids/families there. On 29th March I took my brother for his birthday lunch, from Edinburgh & again! as always made remarks towards, my son being messy. He is now 2!!! for pity sake, I always feel guilty as it is & tidy up, after myself & apologise, but enough is enough, should I gag! him.He is a child!!! & I can assure you I have seen much worse, people who do not give a damn! & leave their kids to cause havoc destroying everything around them, without correcting them.So this time I did answer back & say, my son was quiet & I had tidied up the food on the table.I took it on the chin again!, but knowing I was reaching, fever pitch! with this underlying situation, &arrogant man. The situation was making me feel so uncomfortable, I didn't know what to do to be honest, & thought maybe I should just not go back.My brother did not want to upset me, as I went on & on about how lovely, the place was, but eventually! made comment on the arrogant, attitude of the owner, & how he felt embarrassed at his aggressiveness. This evening, I brought my family who are over from Italy & staying in Edinburgh, only to be utterly humiliated & literally WARNED OFF!as I was greeted, with an arm around me, only to" whisper" in my ear, that I was to make sure my 2yr old, was to behave & be quiet. How unpolitically correct can you be!!! I have been a client since, well! before I was pregnant & to my SHOCK, DISGUST& OUTRAGE, I was spoken to in this manner, in front of other dinners & My family. Whilst some were still entering & I was clearly, upset & still in shock, I explained what he had said to me, to be comforted by my family & pleaded 2 leave immediately!! I asked for the owner to come over & as we gathered our belongings, told him I did not like the manner in which he spoke to me & had enough! of his rude comments.I regretted introducing so many people to this place, as he was a greedy, rude ungrateful man & in general cruel towards kids. His behaviour is unacceptable & never, have I been treated in such a manner, having been to Michelin Star establishments without any!!! trouble whatsoever.I wonder what would have happened, if I had breast fed in the early days.Pathetic! behaviour for this day and age. The arrogance of this man, is astonishing! but he liked my MONEY
