About

The museum of bricks and brickmaking

Story

Come and be amazed at the authentic sights, sounds and smells of the last stream-driven Victorian brickworks in the UK. Follow in the footsteps of the brickmakers to see how bricks were once made here by the million and experience what a Victorian factory with its huge machinery was like.
There really is something for everyone, lots of hands-on activities for children of all ages. You can even have a go at making your own brick. Plenty of space inside if the weather is poor and we welcome well behaved dogs on leads.
Once a month all the machinery is steamed up and the place hums with life again. We have four stationary engines, a railway on site, resident traction engines who help us put on a really good day out – no chance of getting bored!
An inexpensive family visit, with lots of brick related activities and family trails. Enjoy free parking, snacks, drinks and gift shop.
We are based on the River Hamble with lovely riverside walks, and Manor Farm and Bursledon Windmill close by. Why not make a day of it?

We visited to take part in mosiac coaster making. We had a lovely afternoon. My boys aged 10 & 6 enjoyed finding the stamps and seeing all the old machinery. They've tried to include lots of hands on stuff for kids. The volunteers were all really enthusiastic and friendly too. We thoroughly enjoyed making the mosaic coasters and even made our own bricks too. The cafe was clean and pleasant. Restricted menu but sandwiches were very tasty. All in all a lovely afternoon.

Great day out. Very interesting lots to see especially when the engines are producing steam. Good for all ages; lots for children to interact with.

Excellent attraction. It's getting better and better over the years, an ambitious master plan to refurbish Sheds 1 and 2 for £1.8 million and other minor projects. A true inspiration. There's so much more to just manufacturing bricks!

A truly great day out, go to one of the steam up days, you get to see miniature and full size traction and live steam vehicles. A real eye opener. They have a basic cafe that does sell food and toilets, don't forget to gift aid your ticket.
