Stayed here recently for 2 nights whilst visiting our son who lives about 6 miles away from the inn. Great room, every comfort included, dog friendly too. We didn't book for bed and breakfast but decided to have it on our first morning. We found the cost quite high and we weren't sure if you could just have just some eggs on toast for example, so a little disappointed it wasn't a more flexible and reasonably priced menu. All the staff were incredibly friendly throughout our stay and would recommend friends to stay here when in the area.
Lovely country pub. We were in for a family dinner on a Saturday night. Easy to book online, great menu and well looked after with dietary requirements catered for. Food was great, service with a smile and good selection of beers. Would definitely recommend
Pretty much perfect. Lovely setting. Lunch with friends after a local strut from the pub car park. Warm welcome from the landlady, open fire, excellent selection of beers on draught. Quality, tasty food, much enjoyed. Just maybe would have preferred some ‘crackling’ on the pork chop and maybe some apple sauce… personal preference. Incase you’re wondering my friend did order the steak ’well done’ . Lovely crumble and custard to finish off. Highly recommend, we will undoubtedly return.
They had really overbooked on the 27th of December and couldn't handle the numbers. We had pre-ordered food, it took 2 hours to arrive and the order was wrong. Children's pasta was so spicy it wasn't edible. The menu didn't mention allergies and nobody asked about them, my son with an egg allergy couldn't eat the burger as it had a brioche bun. So not great...
We are local & only went for Sunday lunch, 4 adults & 2 very young children. This was a disaster. We arrived at 12, we were seated in the conservatory which was extremely cold with one little faulty plug in heater which was eventually taken away. Our food finally came at 1.15 very small portions, one large carrot which was uncooked. So disappointed didn’t stay for dessert. We can only assume the kitchen was understaffed for the numbers they had booked in.
Wanted somewhere for food on the way to the fireworks in Newbury Showground. The service was awful. Most of the staff were on their phones, had to chase drinks. 2 out of the 5 meals were not available. Ordered a starter of bread and oil, came with burn toast. Manager rolled her eyes when asked if the order was correct. My main was a burger, had a very odd taste. It was the worst burger I'd ever had. Couldn't wait to leave and will never return.
This pub had huge potential and we were really looking forward to our night out. However the service was terrible because the staff seemed run off their feet. Long wait for drinks. 40min wait for food. The breadboard came out with the starters despite asking for it not to. I tried to change my main shortly after ordering but wasn't allowed. My pie was burnt and had little meat in it. Nobody seemed to care and every table seemed to be having issues. Then the usual trick of adding a 12.5% discretionary service charge to the bill which of course everyone pays. Just pay your staff right in the first place.
Stayed here for a week in december in room nr. 5, the room was really cosy and had nice amenities. Bathroom : The shower isn't suitable for tall people >1,85m but has nice steady hot water no loss of pressure, no change in temperatures the toilet isn't really suited for people with a little bit more weight because it's cramped between the sink and wall. Overall the bathroom has everything you need including a big mirror and does the job for a week. Room for improvement : the cleanliness of the bathroom could have been better, the soap holders looked quite grungy on the bottom and some other spots needed some attention too. Bed & bedroom overall : The bed was absolutely fantastic, it was one of those beds you would want to take home with you if you could and felt like the goldilocks bed. The room has plenty of storage space for all your clothes and things you might be taking with you. What may be a problem for some people is that you could hear everything in the hallway from the room, for us it wasn't to much of an issue because there aren't so many rooms and all the guests try their best to be quiet in the hallway. Room for improvement : a coat hanger would have been a great and handy addition to the room. Breakfast : We didn't book breakfast with the room but did end up having breakfast here almost every morning. The breakfast is almost 12£ fixed price, this is a lot if you just want a tea and piece of toast but if you choose something from the quite large and delicious breakfast menu you get value for money all the way that fills you up until dinnertime. Room for improvement: the watercooker was tiny so not suitable if there were multiple guests at the same time. Parking : There's a huge parking here so don't worry about that, the pub/inn is located on a quiet street so you'll be fine finding a spot. Location : The location was perfect for us, it's nearby the motorway but still tucked away in a quiet and green enviroment.
We came for dinner - booked for our party of 7 - ended up 8 of us. Arrived at 1930, seated…waited about 30mins for drinks to arrive - ended up going to the bar to get them ourselves…this happened twice! Service was a disaster from beginning to end waited over half an hour for our bill having already complained and then had to ask for it again We came to celebrate a 70th - what a total disaster. Won’t be going again. Starters were cold, meat pie had no meat! When we complained after - apparently this was our fault for not sending it back - if you’ve waited 90 mins for food you’re not going to risk waiting for it again!!! So disappointing - if you’re a local, looks like you get all the perks of service, if you’re not - they’ll happily forget about you.
Went for a family meal on a Saturday evening. Was sat in a chilly conservatory area, away from the warmth of the fire or any other heating. Service was ok but casual. Food was unexceptional. One of the specials was Duck breast served with Potatoes Dauphinois, Spinach and Stilton mash. Apparently that meant it was all mashed together not separate. The duck lacked any moisture almost like it had been precooked and reheated. Not worth £22. Others in our group had haddock and chips and roast chicken which was reported as ok
