Charged for an apparently admitted preexisting windshield chip. In line with other reviews, my experience is they claimed it's my fault for agreeing to pay for preexisting damages. Details: Upon pickup I was told this vehicle had some minor damage, although I saw none doing a quick walk around. Also, at pickup I was given in writing, “You will not be charged for any minor scuffs or dents that occur during your rental period or that are pre-existing on collection.: [including] … Glass – Chips less than 3mm….” Upon drop off, I was informed of a glass chip on the windshield which was too small for me to notice until pointed out by the employee, blending in with dirt and glare from the sky. It was as if the employee was waiting to tell me about it when I pulled up. I do not recall anything hitting the windshield during my rental, so I believe it was preexisting damage, which again was verbally admitted to me existed before I left with the vehicle, although didn't notice it. The economy grade car already has 59,506 miles on it, of which I only put 239 miles. The glass chip could be over their 3mm chip threshold see attached pictures from Budget, where it appears as a larger whitish spec, which I first thought was more dirt. So, they charged me an extra 39.71 for damage, 33.00 for processing fee for damages, plus 6.60 tax on the damage processing fee, plus 76.30 on the ground vehicle idle time, totaling £155.61 extra related to the damage. Now I’m spending hours over what overall takes months to process with my employer and company credit card rental vehicle insurance to decide how to handle these charges. Now when I do rentals I'm going to be that annoying guy which wants every tiny imperfection documented or I reject the vehicle, and will therefore hold up the line for everyone else over a tiny chip in a windshield. I will never rent from here again.
This place is a joke. I rented a car in London and returned here. I dropped off after hours. The day after I dropped it off I got a bill for damages for a scratch on a rim, which they did provide pictures. I honestly don’t know if it was new or not, I really don’t even know if it was even my car. They sent a picture of a rim, and a separate picture of the front of the car and license plate. Regardless the scratch is a minor cosmetic issue. In no way did it comprise any integrity of the rim based on images they sent. The bill they sent was for about $450 usd. Way more than would be needed to replace a stock rim. Then my credit card was billed over $900 usd. It is a total scam. Do not rent from these dishonest clowns. I feel like I have no recourse to dispute the outrageous charges. All I can do is warn others. Get the insurance if you have to rent from them and drive like you stole it.
I had a special rate on a minimum 5-day rental and turned the car in on time. But the agents at the MAN airport rental counter recorded my drop-off date incorrectly, saying I returned it a day early so they charged me the standard 4-day rate, which was 300 GBP more than the original reservation. There was a long line at the Budget/Avis rental counter when I returned it and the when the agent saw that I was returning a car, he took the keys and said the invoice would be sent. Because I couldn't "prove" I returned it on the correct morning and not the morning prior, they denied my dispute. Further, because this was a holiday, I gave them a personal credit card when I picked up the car but they charged it to my company credit card when the invoice was sent. Really poor service and lack of attention to detail and customer service.
If you rent a car here with a second company, they give you a discriminatory treatment. They will keep you waiting and will not advance any paperwork until the actual rental time arrives. Then, they will try to sell to you all the upgrades and things possible, so you will lose your time. When you finally get the car, there will not be any floor mats, and the car won't be completely clean, however, we were so impatient, that we did not complain. Then, after 21 days with the car, and no floor mats, they complain that it needs special cleaning services since when a vacuum is a special cleaning service?, that they were unable to specifically describe. Then we decided to take out with our hands they could not lend us anything to clean it, even thought we asked for it the debris on the floor remember, no floor mats so they can do this trick and after taking a lot of pictures of the car, that was actually very clean, they said that ok, they will not charge £40, just £25! Most disappointed! I felt it was a clear scam! If I can, I will avoid them in the future.
Really friendly staff. Bit of a pain that the car rental village is a short 5 mins drive from the airport, but that’s not their fault. Beware Some fraudsters like Drivalia are 20 minutes away in an isolated location and don’t let you leave unless you pay them more money
Fantastic experience at this Budget location. We were having issues with our credit cards and being from out of the country, we had had to work to get the issue resolved. The gentleman I believe his name was Marco was extremely patient and non-judgmental of our situation. He worked with us and even helped us to convert the amount owed to USD. Eventually, we used our debit card to speed up the process but the service we received was fantastic. I really appreciate the effort that was put forth.
Did nor answer phones, beware, overpriced and zero service. Beware flat tires can cost you $450 Canadian. Rip off.
Was very impressed with the service here by the lovely lady on the front desk. Very informative and friendly. We even got a free upgrade to a SUV after booking a smaller hatchback, made travelling so much easier. Check-in was also very easy, there was a guy waiting at the drop-off area and confirmed no damage to the car and that it had a full tank straight away. Overall very impressive service and i'll be sure to prioritize Budget on my next trip
Positive Review. Outstanding customer service. Family 7 of us had rental cancelled on arrival with another company. Had to rent an automatic, 7 seater car in the moment from another company. Panic begins.. Dom was nothing but accommodating and helpful, but could not find something our family had to spend. Prices for a car on the same day that had to accommodate our basic needs were about 4 times what we had already lost with the previous company and we simply did not have the means. Marco overheard and immediately expressed empathy as well. They did everything they could to get our family in a car and lower the cost as much as the could. It was NOT cheap, but it was still amazing what both employees did for us. Yes, it was double the price, but that’s not on them. I cannot speak for prices on a normal basis or the normal booking process , but in a situation that was out of control, they really don’t know how much I am grateful for everything they did to help. Misfortune happens and the effort from these two Avis/Budget employees alone says that they, at the very least, hired amazing people at Manchester Airport. Disclaimer: I am posting the same review for both Avis/Budget since the desk is for both. Google separates them and I am not sure if they are technically separate but I want the employees who helped me to have recognition and they worked for both companies. I wanted to write much more in detail but this horrible long day, I am exhausted, but I did not want time to pass and forget to thank and praise these two people for what they did for us. Your kindness had made such an impact on our trip.
Brilliant service each time I've been. People on the desk were friendly and helpful. Car has been good quality, clean and well presented. Only issue is the refunding of the deposit seems to take a lot longer than expected.
