Absolutely amazing Day on the island. We got the first ferry over and it was beautifully quiet just us walking alone for miles. Easy access to all the beaches below with some steps down. Loads of red squirrel sightings which was so sweet as the only place I've seen them is at Escot in Devon. Helpful smiley and knowledgeable national trust staff from the entrance to the finish. It seems like October is a fab month as the squirrels are getting ready for hibernation so they were all over the place collecting. I cant wait to go back may be at another time of year to see the difference. Would highly reccomend.
Amazing island with beautiful views a lot of nice walks. Great little cafeteria wit good of and some good pastries.
Good day out taking some wildlife photos, worth booking as you can only reach the island by boat. Red squirrels on the island are fairly easy to see and photography. Some birds but not many interesting varieties. Small island so not much else to see. Worth a trip though
Amazing day out. Never being here before. Saw a slow worm, vole, dormouse and two red squirrels so was well happy. It was a glorious sunny day and it such a peaceful place.
Brownsea Island lies in Poole Harbour opposite the town of Poole in Dorset, England. It is the largest of eight islands in the harbour. The island can be reached by one of the public ferries or by private boat. There is a wharf and a small dock near the main castle. The island is 1+1⁄2 miles 2.4 km long and 3⁄4 mile 1.2 km wide and consists of 500 acres 200 ha of woodland pine and oak, heathland and salt-marsh.[3] The entire island, except the church and a few other buildings which are leased or managed by third parties, is owned by the National Trust. Most of the buildings are situated near the small landing stage. The northern portion of the island is a Nature Reserve managed by Dorset Wildlife Trust and an important habitat for birds; this part of the island has limited public access. A small portion to the southeast of the island, along with Brownsea Castle, is leased to the John Lewis Partnership for use as a holiday hotel by partners, and is not open to the public. The island forms part of the Studland civil parish within the Dorset unitary authority. It is within the South Dorset constituency of the House of Commons. Until 31 January 2020, it was also within the South West England constituency of the European Parliament.[4][5]
Really enjoyed our visit to Brownsea. So peaceful and excellent views of Poole Bay from different viewpoints. However, didn't see any red squirrels this trip.
Lovely week at the John lewis Hotel on brownsea Island. Staff were fantastic food was excellent. The stunning views and amazing walks. Great day out on a boat trip.
Defo worth a visit. Lovely place for a family walk, swim and just time to relax and escape from a busy world. Easy to book tickets through National Trust website which confirms your ferry booking and then you pay at the kiosk for the ferry upon arrival.
Really pretty little island but sadly came back slightly disappointed as we didn't see any red squirrels. Spoke to someone who works on the island and she said that the squirrels normally come out early morning and in the evening when not many people are around, so if you are just going to see the squirrels be prepared not see them.
An amazing magical place to camp
